Re. the pronoun context ~ who knows? I’d be interested to hear other group members’ opinions on whether they’d add it or not! I was able to guess the meaning so I suppose that’s an argument FOR it not being necessary? But if it were me I’d have included it.

I was not feeling the topic for this essay, but thanks to Kamesame, it went a lot more smoothly than the last one. It’s about Miku, who is about to enter her first year of college, and Renya, a third year, telling her about the good and bad points of dormitory life. I also used some colloquial speech, which I’m not used to, so I provided some translations for parts that may be confusing.
一年生に入るミクさんと三年生レンヤさん、寮生活のよい点と気をつけるべき点について座談会をしています。
ミク: 寮生活に住み始めることが楽しみです。教室の近くに住んでいることが便利らしいです。
レンヤ: はい、教室に近ければ近いほど授業に早い入ります。そのおかげで、バスに乗るまたは運転しないで済みます。しかし、寮に住んでいるからといって授業に間に合うとは限りません。
ミク: そうです。たとえば、寮に引っ越したばかりなら、地図を見ないで迷いやすいです。また、家族に連絡し続けれることを悩みます。
レンヤ: 家族と時間をかけることが減るが、これは大人の成長に役立ちます。“but that’s helpful for transitioning into adulthood.”
ミク:よい点ですね。“That’s a good point”
レンヤ: ところで、寮に住んでいる学生のほうが寮に住んでいない学生よりGPAが高いって知りますか? I’m hoping って知るか conveys “Did you know?”
ミク:へぇ？それはすごいです！なぜかな。。。
レンヤ: あぁ、自分の回りに仲間同士がたくさんいるだろう。勉強と一緒に人を探しやすいです。しかも、図書館と先生が近いので、助けてもらう人がたくさんいます。寮生活に住んで来て以来、勉強することがもっと易くなります。しかし、気をつけるべき点が少しあります。一番大切なのはルームメートです。ルームメートによって、寮生活の経験がまずくなります。夜間にうるさければ、勉強と寝りにくくなります。
ミク:また、公共に一緒に分け合うじゃないか? "You share communal spaces with them too, right?
レンヤ:はい、そうです。だから、ルームメートは汚ければとても面倒くさいです。
ミク:ルームメートを選られば便利なのに。
レンヤ:まずいルームメートがあるの確率と思うほど高くないよ。汚いまたはうるさいルームメートに羽目になっても、変化を頼めります。僕はミクさんが寮生活を楽しむような気がします。
I didn’t find any of the textbook’s example topics interesting and I’m not sure why I chose the topic I did but in any case, I wrote about kids owning pets! Enjoy!
ペットを飼う子供について3人の親話してもらいました。犬を飼う娘がいるエマという母親、猫を飼う子供がいるジェイムズという父親、ヘビを飼う息子がいるジェニーという母親の意見を聞きましょう！
子供がペットを飼ったら良い点は？

: 一番良い点は責任を習う初めてのチャンスです。犬を飼うと、毎日犬を歩かせるべきとか、食べさせるべきとか、たくさんやることがあります。もちろん私がちょっと手伝っても、私の娘がペットを担当するだから、もっと責任を感じる子になると望みます。
ジェイムズ 
: 確かにそうですが、動物によって必要な責任のレベルは違うと思います。犬と比べて猫が飼いやすいですね。僕の子供にとって、良い点は友達を作ったことです。猫は彼女を嬉しくして、ストレスが減って、一緒にかわいい記憶 (きおくmemories)を作りました。
ジェニー 
: 子供がペットを好きなだけでなく、大人も好きになれます。夫が息子にヘビを買ってくれた時に、あたしは気味悪いと思って嫌でした。でも何と言ってもヘビがいる家のほうが面白いでしょう。毎回のように私の友達は訪れ、ヘビに感心します。それからだんだんヘビが好きになりました。ペットは普通な家を特別にするような気もします。
気を付けるべき点は？
ジェイムズ ： たくさんの責任がメリットですが、時々これも大変ですよね。雑用はあまり楽しくなくて、必要なのに子供はしたくないです。娘が猫のリッタートレイを掃除しなかったら僕がちょっと怒ります。それは根気が必要です。
ジェニー ：あたしもそう思います。息子がネズミをヘビに食べさせてみたら、泣きだしてしまいます。ネズミは可愛すぎると考えるから、できません。子供はまだ若くて、たくさん難しいことはできませんね。
エマ ：子供がかわいそうすぎる時は、ペットが死んだ日かもしれません。本当の若さが見えますね。もし初めての死の経験だと、非常に悲しくなります。親として思いやりが大切で、注意すべきだと思います。
This is actually the second version after a coworker read/corrected my first, so the grammar should be all okay! The main corrections were:
As for writing it, I found it easy enough but there were waaaay too many words I had to lookup the reading of that I should definitely remember (e.g. 父親、悲しい etc.). Of course I know the words when I read/encounter them but struggle recalling them. Maybe I should follow @hotdogsuplex 's example and use kamesame more 
I’ve started using anki again so hopefully that’ll serve the same purpose ?

That’s the exact same reason I started using Kamesame, and it’s made me a lot more confident. This essay only took half as long as the last one, and I only had to look up a handful of words.
No hurry since we are probably not starting Chapter 5 next week, but if you so wish, go on and start the listening practice!

For example, today I was having trouble with せっかく so I just searched WK for “Quartet せっかく” and just like that I easily found this thread. So even though I’m working on unit 1, I’ll have a short peak into the explanations in unit 4 to see if I can get my head around that point.

I really didn’t know what to do with this chapter’s writing assignment, so I just put myself into サラー・ゴミスさん、パク・ジフソさん、本田研と高橋美希さんの会話 from the beginning of the chapter.
昔々の話なんですけど (いつかと言うと、聞かないでください)、僕は留学したことがあります。イタリアのパヴィーアに留学していて１０ヶ月間ぐらいあそこに滞在していました。大学で僕は美術史を勉強していました。本当に楽しかったです。

留学のよい点は？
僕は、本田さんと高橋さんの意見に賛成します。イタリアに行った時、自分の国の外に旅行したのは初めてでした。多様な人に出会って様々の経験を通じて、自分の視野が広がったと思います。例えば、アメリカのいい点と悪い点を外から見られる事など。一方、イタリアもたくん問題があるけど、いい点もあるので、人々の温かさとか美しい田園風景と芸術も大好き。
では、留学で気をつけるべきことは？
留学する時に注意すべき点はちゃんと留学先の言語で話すことです。せっかくお金と時間をかけて留学しているのに、母語で自分の国の学生しか喋らないのは本当に無駄な機会だと思います。確かに、ストレスを感じる時、自分の国の人と一緒に喋って自分の気持ちを共有するのはいいと思うけど、留学先の言語で話す努力をするのも重要です。この機会は二度来ないからです。
