Yeah this reads a lot smoother :> but I toooootally empathise with the “English first” thinking and the troubles that can cause
Re. the pronoun context ~ who knows? I’d be interested to hear other group members’ opinions on whether they’d add it or not! I was able to guess the meaning so I suppose that’s an argument FOR it not being necessary? But if it were me I’d have included it.
In any case, I enjoyed reading your writing ♪(^∇^*) ! I’m writing mine up today so I’ll post it later !
I was not feeling the topic for this essay, but thanks to Kamesame, it went a lot more smoothly than the last one. It’s about Miku, who is about to enter her first year of college, and Renya, a third year, telling her about the good and bad points of dormitory life. I also used some colloquial speech, which I’m not used to, so I provided some translations for parts that may be confusing.
I didn’t find any of the textbook’s example topics interesting and I’m not sure why I chose the topic I did but in any case, I wrote about kids owning pets! Enjoy!
This is actually the second version after a coworker read/corrected my first, so the grammar should be all okay! The main corrections were:
the infamous particles; so many が は and を swaps lol
the いる-ある distinction (wild that that is one of the first grammar points you learn in Japanese and I still repeatedly forget to write いる for living things)
As for writing it, I found it easy enough but there were waaaay too many words I had to lookup the reading of that I should definitely remember (e.g. 父親、悲しい etc.). Of course I know the words when I read/encounter them but struggle recalling them. Maybe I should follow @hotdogsuplex 's example and use kamesame more I’ve started using anki again so hopefully that’ll serve the same purpose ?
Time for speaking practice!
There is one scheduled Live Session for December 19th, so be sure to practice for that and check the exact time on Discord
If anybody wants a session at a different time that’s possible too!
Suggested order: (mark your progress in the poll in the first post)
That’s the exact same reason I started using Kamesame, and it’s made me a lot more confident. This essay only took half as long as the last one, and I only had to look up a handful of words.
Reading 1:
I forgot to keep track of my answers, but I understood pretty well and answered quickly. I had to guess on a tricky one, and I think I only got one wrong.
Akashelia, thanks again so much for these threads!! And for taking the trouble to list the grammar points in each unit’s home post. I’ve found it useful several times so just wanted to let you know
For example, today I was having trouble with せっかく so I just searched WK for “Quartet せっかく” and just like that I easily found this thread. So even though I’m working on unit 1, I’ll have a short peak into the explanations in unit 4 to see if I can get my head around that point.
Nice thank you for letting me know!
Can definitely recommend to read the first post of the threads I made when you start a new chapter. For example for chapter 5 (I believe), there are are also 2 videos on YouTube. Unless I missed it, they are not even mentioned in the book!
I really didn’t know what to do with this chapter’s writing assignment, so I just put myself into サラー・ゴミスさん、パク・ジフソさん、本田研と高橋美希さんの会話 from the beginning of the chapter.
