Ah thanks @pembo that explains it!! (I didn’t use the actual genki textbook that much so I guess it’ll be a lucky dip for me which words were covered or not!)

They add furigana only the first time a word occurs in a text. E.g. 推薦状 has furigana in the mail title of 読み物1 and line 6 of 読み物2, but not the other times this word appears in both texts.

Paragraph 2
The university in Minami city has a volunteer programme every year for exchange students.
I think it’s “Minamiyama City, where the/my university is”, with 大学がある a relative clause for 南山. Also, you missed a word, 春. So it’s every spring.
At the event, people in the town share parts of their culture, like food and language.
I think the international volunteers teach the people in town about their culture. に marks the recipient.
That’s all that caught my eye about your translation.

Thanks for the feedback, the Minamiyama bit was just a dumb mistake as the world spills over two lines. The rest was geniune misunderstanding though 
I’ll give it another read tomorrow and see if I can’t make sense of it

Whoops, I didn’t even spot that. My point was actually that it’s the city that’s hosting the internship program, while your translation makes it sound like it’s the university. I think there might even have been a question in the workbook that asks about this distinction.

I meant to add in my post earlier that there was 4 or 5 vocab that I have literally put in SRS since Tuesday that came up in the reading so that was a nice bonus

Finally finished the grammar section, that was a lot to do in one day. Next time, I’ll try to finish the readings sooner, so I can spread the grammar out over several days.

Here’s my writing attempt for Week 2 All in all, I found this week a lot easier than the first so my writing is relatively simple / copies the ‘modal writing’ example a little bit. I wanted to write a thank you letter to my first ever Japanese teacher when I took weekly beginners evening classes but I no longer have access to my old university email so can’t find their email address. So my gratitude will just have to be sent out into the universe (and wanikani forums) instead haha!
By the by, my name is not Anna and their name was not Mr. Ryan haha but the rest is true!
Letter to an old teacher 
ライアン先生拝啓
私はアンナと申します。覚えしますか？私はライアン先生の元生徒です！
今はもう十月ですが、夏のように日本は暑く続きます。ロンドンはいかがですか。お元気でいらっしゃいますか。私は去年の四月に日本に住み来て、今は働いている学校に２学期です。
さて、２０２０年に日本語授業ではありがたいと言いたいです。ライアン先生のおかげで、日本語を勉強し始められます。3年間の間に勉強し続いて、毎日日本語を使ってみています。コロナウイルスのせいで、オンラインで授業しかではありませんでしたが、ライアン先生は優しい空気で教えていました。本当にありがとうございます。 
では、秋でこれからロンドンに雨が多くなっていきますね。雨が面倒くさくても、この季節はパンプキンスパイス味の飲み物や楽しい祭日も多いですから、楽しんでください
