Only two lessons in 4 days. Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I am on level 3 and pretty much haven’t unlocked any new lessons over the last 4 days. Is this normal? Yes, I have read FAQs

I got to level 3 on Friday, June 7th at 8am. My accuracy is above 90%. I downloaded the Tsurukame app when I started WaniKani to track my lesson schedule etc. Tsurukame was originally estimating that I would finish level 3 today, Friday, June 14th. Since I haven’t been getting new lessons since Tuesday, now it’s estimating my finish time as Sunday, but I don’t know how I could finish level tree when Tsurukame still shows that I have 31 Vocab lessons locked. Tsurukame keeps pushing my finish time out as time goes on and my lessons don’t get unlocked.

The vocab lesson get unlocked as soon as you guru the respective kanji. Additionally, WK is paid beyond a certain level, and as far as I remember you won’t be able to level up beyond the free levels unless you pay.

I don’t know, it’s kinda weird that they won’t unlock more lessons (especially vocab) when I’m down to only 29 reviews a day. But I do get your point. I’m only one review away for 17 of my kanji’s moving up to Guru, so fingers crossed.

They don’t want to give you vocab for kanji you don’t know yet. And the definition of “knowing a kanji” is defined as it hitting guru. The Apprentice 4 → Guru 1 gap is 47 hours, so you can fit a slow day with not many reviews in there.

The more levels you pass, the more you get kanji from Guru 2/Master/Enlightened coming back to fill those gaps.

You have to hit 90% of your kanji to guru to level up, so if you get most of those 17 kanji correct, you’ll probably level up. But even if you don’t level up, guruing some of those kanji should still give you some vocab lessons, but when depends on when those kanji are coming back for review.

If you’re desperate to study Japanese now instead of waiting, you could go check out some grammar videos or start checking out the radicals for level 4 on the website.

Thank you!

How do I find the radicals on the website? Before they become lessons?

They have a radical section at the top of the main website. Then you can go to the Pleasant category and find the tab for level 4. Then you can click on the radicals to read the mnemonics for them.
