Newbie question: Is there a way to filter out the non kanji based vocabulary?

I’m just getting to the end of level 3 and really liking the way wanikani uses the radicals… it feels super effective so far. However, I am also finding it super annoying to have to plow through katakana like アメリカ and stuff like こんにちは, I don’t need a mnemonic for that.

So before I buy that lifetime subscription, is there a way to filter that stuff out but not all vocabulary?

Lesson picker or a user script that allows you to not have to manually do them like Reorder Omega. That’s all. They’ll still technically be there, but you won’t have to actively engage with them anymore.

Those being added were not a popular choice and a lot of people coming in late (me included) aren’t all that happy with this filler being here either. It’s a wound that reopens every now and again on the forums.

Thanks! I’ll have a look, hopefully it’s enough to make me commit!

Ah it doesnt look like Reorder Omega has an easy way to identify and filter the offending vocab cards automatically, id like them to just “go away” but this seems to just apply to the current session rather than all future lessons. Lesson picker is useless for the same reasons since it only applies to the next lesson which means ill be wasting that time each iteration unselecting stuff.

If you’re using an apple device there is a opt out option in tsurukame

Most of them only appear in the early levels. My advice is to jsut do them like all other vocabulary. Because they are so easy they will be burnt pretty fast and wont bother you anymore. Trying to find a way around them or playing with the lesson picker will probably take more time than to just finish this vocab.

I’m still getting them at this point. I honestly don’t get the point of it, considering there’s a massive, massive gap between the expected level of comprehension in the context sentences and the kana only stuff you get especially later on.

But… I’m almost finished with my annual sub at which point I’m likely moving on from Wanikani anyway. I’m glad it helped me get started and make studying a routine, so no sour grapes on that front.

I guess I am just not really bothered by them. When they pop up it takes a second to write the meaning and then they are gone for a few months.

I think I will stay with WaniKani until lvl60. I am just too lazy to create my own flash cards and WK worked wonders on my Kanji learning motivation. But I can also totally understand moving on after getting into the flow of self studying Kanji. I hope you keep participating in the forum though
