Hi all. I assume I would be one of many non English natives trying their luck with this tool and I really do like it. The only thing that makes this more tedious for me is to add translations and the sporadic research of ridiculous words like ‘moat’. Come on, who knows such stuff. Moat. Already getting hungry again. But enough complaining and on to my question!
Is there a way to make parts of the answers needed to be typed in optional? Some words in German really don’t make sense if I do not add “sth” or “someone”, or they become something quite different if I don’t. So essentially I want to know if I can ask the tool to accept an entry such as
eat (something)
with the answer being recognized as correct no matter whether I type “eat” or “eat something”
Being able to do that also reduces errors that aren’t really errors from a German language perspective.
Download Tsurukame for iOS. It allows you to “cheat” in the sense that if you mistype an answer or say the same thing a different way, you can mark your answer as correct. Very good app and the best way to use Wanikani on iPhone.
Hello! Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I am trying to ramp up my kanji practice for the JLPT N5 and I like the ability to review burned cards. However, is it possible (through wanikani itself or through third party plugins) to be able to review a specific selection of burned cards? My thought process here is I really want to know the roughly 100 kanji that are on the N5 inside and out and it’d be nice to just go through a list of just those each day for awhile. Any advice or suggestions are welcome. If this post should go in a different place let me know. Thanks in advance!
To be fair, I’m still using Flaming Durtles and haven’t noticed any ill effects yet, but that’s not to say there won’t be at some point (plus Joeni has been adding some QOL changes that get recommended on here)
Only thing I’ve noticed is sometimes certain reviews won’t show up on Flaming. Since resetting this last time, I thought I was good but then it happened again today. A review didn’t show up on the app and had to go to the site to complete it. The number of words on guru level, that the word is on, wasn’t counted either. I downloaded Smoldering and it seems to have the correct number of items.
Hi I’m sure this is me being a dumbass rather than a problem with the website but I need help:
I’m on level 4 and I couldn’t remember 切手 = きって so I tried to find the mnemonic for the kun’yomi reading of 切 as き. On the vocabulary page for 切手 it says “you should know the kun’yomi reading from the previous levels” but when I go to the kanji page for 切 it only shows me the on’yomi reading and the kun’yomi reading is greyed out.
God I’m so lost. What was it? When did I learn it? How do I find it again? Please help
Just so I understand: if I want to look up the kun’yomi reading and mnemonic for 切, it’s not on the kanji page for 切, it’s on the vocabulary page for 切る? That seems … unintuitive?
The kanji page only teaches you one reading to avoid hitting you with too much information at once. It’s the most common reading, which is generally the on’yomi. You get taught the other reading along with a vocabulary item.
I accept this but I don’t love it - how to find things when one needs to look them up? Having said that, thank you very much again for your help, and so promptly
Well, I guess the easiest way in most cases is to go back to the kanji page, scroll down to the “Found In Vocabulary” section, pick the first item in that list that’s a verb or adjective with okurigana attached, and that’ll usually be the one you want. For 切, you’ll find 切る in the second position.
I mean, it’s not flawless - kanji like 中 or 月 use their kun’yomi when they’re acting as stand-alone nouns, for example - but you’ll get the hang of spotting it after a while all the same.
Does anyone have the thread/post how many kanji you reached with each new level on wanikani? I remembered stumbling upon it in the past but I just can’t seem to find it anymore
Thank you! I’m afraif it wasn’t some extension or script but just a list of all levels and how many kanji you would have learned already if you were on any specific level
