New iOS app

Thank you, but I donā€™t think there is anything that could change their policy.

Currently Iā€™m thinking about trying to negotiate with WaniKani crew or to drop wanikani all together and create a standalone kanji learning app. Or to leave it all as is.

Didnā€™t the exact same thing happen when you were first releasing your app? I donā€™t understand how they can force you to provide subscription options through IAP when legally you canā€™t accept them, not being an agent for Tofugu, LLC. It just seems to me that the reviewer thinks yours is an official app.

I assume youā€™ve appealed to the App Review Board?

Well, the option of doing Ad-hoc distribution doex exist (for instance, UserTest does this to provide their IPA to their users), but I donā€™t think it would be practical

Yes this happened before but after my appeal they let it through.

This time they have a different opinion about it. I had a good 30 min talk with Apple representative, so no, they donā€™t assume this app is official, they know the whole picture exactly, and their answer is still to either implement iAPs or to get out of store.

Would you be allowed to make it a one time payment to take down the app? As much as we pay for WaniKani already, a small one time payment to have this extra tool should be affordable by any who wants to use it.
Not sure if you are allowed to take money for it though, since it is a third party app.

They want not just any in app purchase, they want wanikani premium subscription within the app.

Is the subscription page exposed in the App? If so, remove the dom element which consists of the link?

There is no access to subscription page from within the app.

I removed all of those long age. Itā€™s just that apple figured out that service has subscription and wants it to be within the app made with in app purchases.

Wowā€¦ truly a sad state of things. Maybe itā€™s one of those cases where the particular Apple rep is just a (sorry folks, I donā€™t curse :slightly_frowning_face:).

So weirdā€¦ Basecamp app doesnā€™t do IAPā€¦ and they are subscription service.

Are you doing anything radically different from the other third party WaniKani apps? I wonder why this would happen to yours when others got through.

No, nothing special.

I am worrying that the same can happen to the other apps D:

Thatā€™s a garbage decision that is not cosistent with their terms of service. What if we all write letters on your behalf? The app is in compliance with their terms of service without an IAP link. Especially since AlliCrab is still on the App Storeā€¦
Give us an email address.

I can also reach out to my network and see if thereā€™s anything else that can be done. I know some senior engineers at apple. They might know who to talk to.

Hi @haawa
First of all : thank you for this great app.
I use it everyday and Iā€™m so glad I can wanikani on the go with useful scripts.
Iā€™d like to know if thereā€™s a way to prevent the keyboard to go up and down with each input?
I get kinda dizzy on the iPad with that.
Maybe thatā€™s something I can deactivate in the settings but I couldnā€™t find it.
Tons of thanks anyway!

Thanks for kind words!
Unfortunately the reviews are done in webview, and there is no way, as far as I know, to control the keyboard.

This app is a third party app, not an official app. Due to various reasons, i no longer update the app. Main reasons are lack of time due to my day job, problems with Apple to accept updates, and WaniKani limitations.

Currently Iā€™m working on a similar app but without WaniKani as a backend.

I see.

I kind of worked around the issue with the undocking of the keyboard so Iā€™ll guess itā€™s better than nothing.

Thanks again, I wish I had time myself to craft something but I really donā€™t.

Currently available apps are pretty good anyway so letā€™s be thankful for that.

This truely is a great app and I really enjoy using it. The only problem is that even after trying different ways (log out, reboots, uninstall/reinstall, generating new API keys, toggling connectivity etc.) I still canā€™t get the watch app to work. The screen just stays empty with alternating ā€œFetchingā€¦ā€ and ā€œCritical itemsā€ flickering at the top. Is there a way to solve this?
I know youā€™re not actively working on the app anymore but I thought Iā€™d ask, in case Iā€™m missing something.
Thankyou!

I would pay $50 for this app if it included the Anki Mode script.

Iā€™ve waited a year now hoping that someone would make an iOS app with anki mode, I am so tired of carrying my laptop around purely for doing WaniKani reviews. I want to be able to do reviews with one hand while standing on a train/eating a banana/petting a cat and stop wasting time on typos on my phone keyboard. :weary:

Iā€™m serious, if someone updates this app/makes a new one with anki mode Iā€™ll pay.
