Chapter 25

What a chapter :scream:
So many things to say!

First off, was really fun to change the perspective a bit.
I don’t remember at all if this is a one time thing or not.
Especially after a break, was nice to revisit the start of the manga.

Was funny to see Shin have no idea of what’s the difference between a Yukata and a kimono (like me).

Then we get a possible explanation, finally, as for why he knows nothing about Japanese traditions. He was apparently raised abroad, by two Japanese parents (maybe). We have at least seen his dad in volume 7, I can’t remember if we’ve seen his mom, so many ladies in Shin’s life..

This chapter got that covered too!

Takumi’s face, when he realizes he loves Hachi?

And then the end of the chapter… Can’t really comment on it because I remember too much of where this is going, but ready to read some reactions :eyes:

I read this last week and then totally forgot to post my comments  I guess the break got me rusty in my Nana posts..

Chapter 25

I absolutely love soggy Shin and Nobu after they brave the weather to see Hachi. She was pretty cute in her yukata, I have to admit.

Didn’t someone at some point remark that he was so good looking that he must not be Japanese (let’s not unpack that statement )? Or am I confusing that with another character? (Layla maybe?)

This is the last thing I remember in the story. I guess I sorta remember like one more conversation that happens as a result of this, but otherwise this is basically a new manga to me now.

Hm I think that was Layla, who is actually a ハーフ but her managing staff advised her not to tell to make her a more special Japanese person (but could also have been シンちゃん and I missed it)

Enjoy! I have at least one more thing that I remember, but I think I’ve read until volume 17 before so there must be more surprises…!

Chapter 25 Thoughts!
  • I loved going back to Nana’s perspective as the framework for the chapter! I don’t think we’ve had one from her POV since like…vol. 1 or 2? I don’t really remember how many more we get…

  • Can we talk about the romantic tension between Yasu and Nana in the scene where they’re on the train platform together? I almost got the sense that Nana was trying to tell him “come with me, you idiot! We can be together!” but he can’t see past his loyalty to Ren.

  • The scene of the group lighting firecrackers by the river is one of the most beautiful and memorable scenes in the story, I think :sparkling_heart:

  • I officially really do like Ren! I remember saying in an early chapter that he bugged me and I didn’t know what his personality was supposed to be, but I’ve grown pretty fond of him – especially his role as a moral compass in Trapnest.

  • I knew Hachi got pregnant having read the manga/watched the show, but I didn’t remember it happened this early in the series?! Things all feel like they are happening so fast!!

Same! I’m like, were not even halfway though the story yet (which isn’t itself even finished)! What on earth are they going to get up to in the other more than half we have left!?

Kinda got from the context that this was a show or a movie but had me very confused for a moment…
Looked it up so you don’t have to: 昆虫物語 みなしごハッチ - Wikipedia

I did NOT remember that move by Takumi, wow :-o
completely crazy

But he can though! He breaks from it and tells her “don’t go”. But then she just says “come with me” instead of staying.

美里 basically says that too, and he replies that he thinks it’s hard to believe for him too. I interpreted it as him thinking his mother cheated on his dad with a foreigner and he’s the outcome?

Ah yeah that’s right! It was only a half remembered conversation and I couldn’t remember who was talking (or even who it was about).

That clinic sequence was intense! The text is often very dense in this manga but the author knows that sometimes you just have to let it breathe.

I thought he was proposing they made a sex tape at first (I confused ハッチ and エッチ because of the fr*nch pronunciation of H).

Haha relationship goals xD
It confused me because ハッチ / ハチ

Seems like you’re all caught up now, well done!

I liked the structure of this chapter. First, checking in with the rest of the cast (incidentally, Trapnest’s members are all with Blast’s members), and then coming back to the main events.
The main events… :frowning:
Very sad with the outcome, even though she seems sad about it, it feels like Hachi has definitely chosen Takumi. Both when she hold his hand, and also when she wasn’t able to say to Nobu more than “sorry” :frowning:
Now everybody is sad :frowning: (except Takumi?) and Nana also went a bit too crazy there

I have somehow gotten behind (I think taking the month off broke my Nana reading habit), but I’m planning to catch up before we start the next volume.

I was wondering if you and @nerdqueen666 could use a one week break before Volume 9? so we would start again after the JLPT!

Hadn’t expected Hachi to run to Junko, and Nana to run to Yasu and not to Ren. And Naoki, what a snitch xD

I liked the conversation between Hachi, Jun and Kyosuke, while I will never like it that Hachi doesn’t pick Nobu, it explained well why she acted as she did I think. Also had a good laugh with this panel:
