The sects were originally just a membership level. Then, at some point, Koichi started assigning them for semi-random things, like to everyone that participated in a particular conversation, and some were unique to an individual, usually based on something they did or said… including a few humorously undesirable titles that were assigned when people started asking to be given a title.
Mine, I assume, is related to the fact that I made the Golden Burn script that turns all burned-item-related black colors into gold. Anyway, there is a story behind almost every sect title… though, if I remember correctly, a few people didn’t know why they had received theirs.
