Looking for reading suggestions

I have been reading from NHK News Web Easy. I really like the level of difficulty. For me, it ranges from just having to look up some vocabulary, to more challenging grammar points that I can look up.

My issue is that I get stressed when I read the news, so I want to find something different. I have read SO many graded readers that I’m extremely bored of them. I find manga more difficult because it uses a lot of slang/abbreviations/casual speech.

So, I would appreciate any suggestions for sites that are comparable in reading difficulty level to NHK News Web Easy. I’m not sure at all how the site corresponds to the JLPTs.

Thank you :cherry_blossom:

the pokemon manga bookclub is starting soon and I don’t think it’s that bad with slang, Oak is a bit weird and we don’t talk about Bill though

Okay, thank you, I’ll check it out

This is another manga suggestion, but the ABBC read ちいさな森のオオカミちゃん a while ago.

There is a fair amount of casual language - but there is a pretty comprehensive vocabulary list, and lots of discussion in the threads so anything you get stuck on will probably have been asked by somebody already. So perhaps it would be a fun way to familiarise yourself with some casual language and slang. :slightly_smiling_face:

Other than things like text density and unique vocab, there is a good reason to read about manga grammar that might not be tested in JLPT. There are books and websites somewhere. Also, some threads here.

Threads for a reader trying to read a manga may help. I saw one with Pokemon, Chainsaw man, etc. quite a while ago.

Do you like Disney movies?

If so, these are book adaptations

Do you think you’ll continue the club after the first volume? I’m considering going physical for some, but I’ll likely go digital if it’s just the first.

It’s not quite what you’re asking for, but are you familiar with the site Learn Natively? It’s a good resource for looking up all sorts of reading (or watching) material, and it shows the approximate difficulty of all of it.
If not, that might be a good place to look for new material!

That would depends more on members’ interest – after the club has started for while. (It hasn’t even started yet, just soon.)

Thank you, I have used it, but it seems to mostly focus on manga. I love manga, but I was hoping to find a website with articles that aren’t the current news. I tried the N4 articles on Watanoc, which seems to be alright, now. I think I read all of the N5 ones, so the site was getting boring.

Cool. I have a hard time purchasing digital copies because I like filling my book shelves with pretty books. Of course I can continue reading them on my own, but I would prefer a group.
