And that’s all she wrote! Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone for reading along with us and congratulations on seeing it through to the end!! It was so fun revisiting this book for the first time since I was a kid with a brand new lens.
On the subject of an offshoot - I’ve decided I would join one, but I think I found running the club to be a bit more high pressure and I’ve got a few too many IRL things going on that just makes it feel a bit more like a chore. I felt throughout as if I could’ve been doing more as far as engaging with the discussion and being a better host, but my priorities didn’t end up allowing for it. Sorry everyone!!
fyi, i think you’ve done a great job of hosting, and i’m grateful for the work you’ve put in
hopefully someone is available to host an offshoot, but regardless, it’s been great reading with you all!!
i’m a tiny bit behind rn but i’ll finish this week with the rest of you for sure
That’s a wrap! Thank you @jablekanji for hosting this book club-- I think you did a great job! I didn’t always keep up with the readings, but getting to participate in some of the threads and read along with everyone was fun
As for the last two chapters, some of the old man’s conjugations were difficult, and there was some difficult vocabulary that I was only able to guess from the kanji but would not expect to see again anytime soon (such as 肺活量 for lung capacity)! I had known about the Arbok scene just because of how popular it was, but did not know it was going to be in this volume… once again the manga never fails to be much more intense than anything else Pokemon-kid-friendly-wise…
I also really liked the recap at the end with the chapters on the map and Red’s team status–it was really cool to see how it would be like the game!
Thanks so much for hosting! Happy to host a potential offshoot club! Though I am not sure if we’re actually doing one…? Pretty much everyone is non-committal
I’m not ready to commit to a whole six volumes more, but I would be willing to commit to vol 2 and 3, ending just before the manga changes protagonists :o
As asides:
I’d actually prefer if we slowed the pace a bit, but I think that might be too slow for some of us. I can work with the current pace if that’s what people prefer, I’ll just be reading fairly lightly/glossing over things that are beyond my reading level
I would consider doing the full 7 volumes of the Kanto arc if we make it to the end of vol 3 and the group is still interested in continuing. I just don’t want to commit to 6 more volumes right now
That is the impression I’m getting… Because even with the best of intentions, there will also just be life-related drop-offs and I fear we’d realistically be left with maybe 2-3 people actually reading?
And I’m done the volume
Honestly there’s a lot I didn’t understand, but I was able to understand the broad strokes and had a good time regardless
That was a really cool end to the volume! Very intense.
Thanks everyone for being a part of the club, and thanks again to @jablekanji for hosting!
Anything more than one people actively reading on the same page / volume could be okay. But realistically, even the host might not be actively reading too, and the one people could also stop being motivated to read on the same page…
Also, honestly, even 2-3 people might not be much fun enough. So no pressure to make an offshoot exist. (I could still read otherwise.)
Noted that I haven’t read Vol.2, and could be reading with the club. I could go multiple volumes for the current arc as well.
I voted for maybe cause I’m on too many bookclubs right now, but I always end up getting into a new one anyways hahaha.
Honestly, it is fairly easy and it’s my first time reading it so it is pretty fun. I think I would join an offshot club. However, I’m usually more of a lurker, I have time to look at the forums a couple times a week and then usually I forgot what I read for that week’s chapter hahaha
