MIU404 Episode 1 for the third time. For the 58 minute episode it took me an hour and 7 minutes this time around! Which lined up with my goal of not too much rewinding/lookups. I feel good about how much I was able to understand!! But I also kind of feel like I cheated, even if that maybe doesn’t make sense lol. Because I understand it because I grinded it so much yesterday, and all the lines are fresh in my head. But surely that’s not entirely a bad thing? I also think knowing what they’re saying is helping me to recognize better and be able to catch it when they’re talking really fast. So yeah, I feel a little bit like I’m cheating, or that maybe it’s not as helpful as I think? Buttt I also figure, worst case scenario, it’s helpful, but not the absolute most effective thing. But I enjoy it! So sometimes that’s what’s more important right
So last week i finished all 28 episodes of Frieren in a week… Of course with subtitles. Talk about self restraint but man it was so good. Such a heartwarming series I loved how slow it was and how every episode was just a reminder of treasuring the present. Every time there would be a flashback about Himmel, I’d feel a twinge in my heart like what could have been… But it was so subtle that you’re not even really sure there was actually any romantic feelings there. You’re just left to interpret it on your own. GAH! I just loved how there was no drama.
In other news, today I learned there’s a literal translation for hotdogs in Spanish which is perros calientes. My mind was blown. Not sure why it feels to me like that makes less sense than the English word when it’s exactly the same thing. I guess just desensitization.
Also discovered a new source of Japanese listening for me today - Wasabi listening daily japanese. I liked the first episode. She speaks very clearly but simplified it seems. There’s also Japanese subtitles with kanji with furigana that you can read if you want.
Finally got a chance to do some more listening after several days of drought….Relistened to episode 13 of 4989 American Life for the podcast club; listened to two episodes from the ことのは girls (highly recommend the one on hair - hair removal, hair care); and listened to a Think in Japanese すったもんだカルチャー Podcast episode after having read the article they’re discussing.
A なつめさんち video. It was a fun challenge, where they randomized one of those cute Japanese clip art photos you see everywhere. Then they drew 3 manga pages based on the random clip art it gave them
MIU404 Episode 1 for theee fourth time! I replayed the difficult passages a few times, and added a few more words to anki! There are still new details I am noticing! The writing and filming is very intentional and detailed. It’s the kind of writing where no line is useless, and characters are usually having fast paced conversations and talking over each other. Which is a little difficult from a language perspective haha, but perfect for using repetition to figure it out!
メタラジ Episode 6. They had the same guest on from last week, and they said he will be returning next week too! With the episodes being so short, I like it better that way! Because otherwise they only get to talk to their guests for like, 5-10 minutes lol
MIU404 Episode 1 for the fifth time! The amount of times isn’t set in stone, but I had the idea that watching 10 times for each episode might be good! If I end up doing that it means I’m halfway done with the first episode watch throughs! It is still VERY enjoyable, and makes me giggle before the jokes even happen haha. This watch through I didn’t do much rewinding or lookups at all, at least less than yesterday
A なつめさんち video where they bought art supplies in China!
MIU404 Episode 1 for the sixth time I just watched it straight through without subtitles while walking on the treadmill. This compared to the first day doing the same is like night and day! Which probably isn’t saying much since I put in the time/lookups to understand it all. But it’s still a good feeling! And kind of cool to be able to just watch a Japanese episode the way I would if it was an English show!
I feel like I’ve listened to more than just ch 13 before, but I do not remember, so whatever. But with this, I’ve finally finished it! afaik the next subseries hasn’t gotten any drama CDs yet. Also, the cast comments were a lot slower-paced and easier to follow than I expected from the previous ones lol
And then I put 明日をくれた君に on for background noise while I crocheted and worked on NWN2 fic, because Enojun’s voice is soothing. I don’t know how many times I listened to it (it’s a 35-min abridged version; I don’t know if a full version was ever recorded).
