Listened to the Sayuri Saying Podcast where she talks about decorative manholes in Japan - you can even do a マンホール巡り. Have to say that as an organizing principle for traveling around Japan, the idea appealed to me. But then, I’d also like to do a 銭湯巡りtoo.

I checked out Orient because Kajiwara Gakuto sang the S2 ED, but it’s, uh, a little too stupid for me lol. The OP and ED are good though.

Happy August! One more month of listening challenge to go!
I have spent all day trying to get through the last episode of Boyfriend but I’ve found it pretty painful. I love Japanese reality dating shows and I was really looking forward to this one, but something about it has not worked for me. None of the romantic intrigue felt particularly compelling. And the main relationship that did develop included the one participant that I actively disliked - I know I should be sympathetic to him because of his difficult background, but that doesn’t mean I think anyone should be in a relationship with him. I will finish it, and if there’s another season, I’ll probably watch it, but aside from the delightful commentator panel, I didn’t end up loving this one.
Just listened to Sayuri Saying podcast #220 where she talks about 四字熟語 (4 character idioms) - specifically the following four:
一日一善 (doing 1 good deed a day)
腹八分目 (only eating till you are 80% full)
三日坊主 (someone who starts something new but quickly drops it)
一日一新 (something new every day - her own 四字熟語 based on 一日一善)
In a note appended to this podcast she apologises for repeatedly pronouncing 四字熟語 as よんもじじゅくご instead of the correct reading よじじゅくご. Kind of good to see a native speaker making a reading mistake.
I already knew the very useful 三日坊主, but was pleased to learn the other two. The only other one I know is 一石二鳥 (one stone, two birds) - exactly the same as the English “killing two birds with one stone)”. I wonder where this saying actually originated?

Wanted to listen to something different so started listening to YUYU の日本語podcast. Listened to the first two episodes.
I’ve been listening to ep 8 of 4989, but in smaller and smaller chunks, maybe I need a break from it. So I started looking for something else. I’ve been trying out bits and bobs of what people post and I’m just not sure what I want. For now I’m just browsing through NHK or searching for videos of things I read about.

Today I came home exhausted after watching tennis all day in the blazing heat, but out of sheer determination not to break my streak, I watched exactly 6 minutes of Terrace House.

Listened to the third and fourth episodes of YUYUの日本語podcast. The third episode was YUYU and a young Japanese exchange student (あかねちゃん) talking about the 先輩後輩 relationship in Japan. I caught most of it but there were some things I missed so I will have go back and listen more attentively when I have time.
