November 2nd!

Today I had another lesson with the trainee teacher I met earlier this week.
We practised useful phrases and vocabulary for interacting with people in shops and restaurants.

Traveling today and downloaded some podcast episodes to listen to on the flight… But of course I ignored them and listened to music instead the whole time. However, I was listening to Japanese music, so it counts! I even looked up words that I was hearing in the dictionary so I could understand pieces of the lyrics pretty well actually.

November 3rd!

A lesson with my tutor today
We focused on exam prep so lots of practise questions including a chunk of listening questions. I did pretty well overall.
We also discussed our weekend plans.

I take notes during the week to remember what I listened to every day and to try to track how much listening (in minutes) I do, but I honestly always feel like it’s a bit of a pain to have to post here. And then I already forgot what I actually listened to yesterday, imagine a week ago. So I’ll have to think of maybe an alternative to the posts or the way I organize myself.

Listened to another one of the Walk and Talk! videos today. Tried to ignore the subtitles a bit more and listen first before I read them to double check my understanding. Picked up a new grammar point from this one: らしい. I think I’d come across it before in the ABBC with Horimiya, but this second encounter in a different context seems to have been the clicking point.

With the exception of Saturday, where I got a headache from too much reading, I spent the whole week playing Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It was really, really, really difficult! But very fun regardless.

The listening component was the most difficult. The cutscenes that were voiced always auto-advanced and so gave very little chance at deciphering the accompanying text. Not to mention the speed of the speech itself. That said, as I already knew what was being said I could focus on the flow of speech, which helped reading the text.

I would have really liked it if ロベリー at least had voiced lines, because all that Katakana was awful.

Today I watched a vid from Speak Japanese Naturally:

The title says it’s about a Mt. Fuji climbing story, but it’s also about some tasty snacks. I got a little lost from time to time, but mostly managed to keep up.

That was an interesting video - she does speak quickly, and the Japanese writing appears and then rapidly disappears. I understood a fair amount - if I were able to concentrate more intently, or if I were to slow things down a bit or even stop after each sentence I could probably have understood most of it. I will have to check out more of her videos, thanks…

Thanks for sharing this video. I’ve only watched a few minutes, but I like it and plan to finish it later tonight. The rest of the channel looks nice too.

Would definitely recommend her channel for listening practice! My favourite ones are were she wanders round parts of Japan and just walks and talks, real calming way of learning. I find she explains things in a way that’s easy to understand, also the JP subs are a real help.

Nihongo no Mori’s N3 Kotoba #41 today.

I was planning to do more listening tonight to be honest but I’m a little tired out from work. I had a day where I started with 27 things on my to do list, worked solidly all day and ended the day with 34 things on my to do list :smiling_face_with_tear:
So I’m going to cut myself a bit of slack this evening!

11月8日 (水)

I really should be doing more listening per day with the exam suddenly looming on the horizon, but I’m having a bit of a rough time and I’m just not up to it. Hopefully a restful weekend will sort me out though.
