A まるごと Review of the "Marugoto" Textbook Series

RIP everyone who got pinged by me
That’s hilarious. I’m glad you’re enjoying it (and the weird percentage stuff and the heatmap)
Glad you enjoyed it! I spent 2 hours on making this post (oh, the kanji I could’ve learned in these two hours…)
The best way to learn grammar is to pick a grammar resource and stick with it. Don’t skip around between resources, just use the one you’ve decided on. There are lots of writeups in the forums on the benefits and drawbacks of different resources, so just do a little searching and reading.
Aren’t you the one who made the weird percantage stuff and the heatmap?
@anon99047008 You seem to enjoy this thread and its posts, huh? (Talking about spamming likes )
I’m always watching and liking.
though not as much as @tenizey
Hehe, I guess that’s true
Yep, and the Bottled Wanimekani
Noice, you did a really great work! Now that I have it, I couldn’t imagine a life without the heatmap any longer
@WaniMeKani fortune
Hello,
A fellow 16 year old (almost 17 year sold) here.
I’m not a hater but don’t get too bogged down by stats and finishing wanikani in an year.
Believe me I started with the same goal 1 and half years ago and I was actually on pace to reach level 60 , 9 months ago.
But it came to a point where I had to choose between passing my current grade and doing wanikani and i had to choose the former.
Just try not get burned out by WaniMeKani.
I still believe you can do it. Just don’t hate the process and remember to have fun.
(P.S Please start grammar early. I regret not starting it early.)
Also as a fellow student you should check out mext. It’s a nice goal to work towards to.
Thank you for telling me this! I think that I’ll be able to hold the pace, tho, bceause I study in homeschooling, which means I am way more flexible Also, thank you for your recommendation, and don’t worry, I planned to start grammar this week, I just need to find a resource I’m comfortable with
I am using the grammar playlist by Nihon goal (Currently my main Grammar source)
I also have heard a lot of buzz about Tae Kim’s grammar guide , but Personally haven’t tried it.
I also use a Textbook (Marugoto starter A1 Katsudo and Rikai)
One of the most "practical" Japanese textbooks in group settings — Find out how the Marugoto (まるごと) series was like a godsend to my small Japanese classes.
I bought it because Its affordable. The only problem with this books were you were only able to fully use this book with the help of a website, Its not independent. There are question problems in the book with listening part in it which requires the use of computer.(It also comes with a CD).
I likes book which are standalone by itself and dosen’t make you do much work to study.
Thanks for you recommendations! I’ll definitely have a look at them
greetings! seeing your enthusiasm for learning is delightful :^)
not that you need any more recommendations on grammar sources, but I thought I would throw two more options in the pot
bunpro is paid (but has a 30 day free trial) and teaches grammar using SRS. even without a paid account you can still go through all the grammar points as a reference.
japanese ammo with misa is a youtube channel I’ve been watching on and off to reinforce various grammar points. I linked to her absolute beginners series here. she provides lots of examples and goes in depth on each point.
I wish you luck in the future!
Welcome to the Chrismas edition of my study log!
A lot of things have happened since my last log entry, so instead of talking, let’s just look at my progress and what else has happened!
However, just for your own safety, you should first read this warning to make yourself a picture of what kind of a person I am and what you’ll have to deal with in this post:
Alright, then let’s just start already!
I suggest we start with the interesting stuff: What happened in the forums?
Well, I am actually responsible for the return of @koichi. Why that, you might ask? I unknowingly performed the secret and sacred crabigator ritual, causing @koichi to return from wherever he was.
You don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself: WaniKani in other lanugages - Update about current situation? - Also, Koichi is in this thread! - #10 by koichi
And then, I finally decided to officially join the 0/0 streak challenge here. I think it will help me a lot to keep me motivated to keep up with my lessons!
Alright, next then, I’ve noticed that @anon9242278 is pretty good at writing funny and comedic stuff, even in serious arguments. (Hey, @anon9242278, might I borrow you for my next log entry?)
Last and least, I found out what’s so funny about Coelacanth
Alrighty, then let’s move on to the (probably) most boring section: My progress in Japanese!
But, before we do so, I want to announce the result of the last poll. In case you don’t remember: Start reading my posts lol
Anyway, most of you wanted me to keep the current name (study log), so Imma keep it! (I won’t change the format of my updating and writing tho). I might get a bit less frequent from now on, but who know, irregular updates can mean any time
Now, let’s actually move on to my progress in Japanese! What have I done, where did I do it and why?
To answer the last two questions: I did not do it on the toilet because that would’ve been weird…
For the first one, we’ll have to dive a bit deeper:
I leveled up yesterday.
“Is that all!?”, you might ask, and, unfortunately, yes, it is… I guess I was just too busy with Chrismas preparations (actually, Chrismas preparations were mainly yesterday and the day before, but nobody has to know that
) However, I looked into all the resource recommendations of every single one of you, and they’re all so great, I’m having a really difficult time deciding which one to choose
I’m pretty confident that I will start basic grammar before end of the year (after all, it would be pretty bad if it took me a year to get started with grammar…)
So, to finish this post, I want to add one more note: I also installed a few new userscripts, namely the Burn Progress by @Rrwrex, the Overall Progress Bar by @Kumirei and the SRS and Leech Breakdown by @seanblue, these are all really cool and useful scripts!
Here are some screenshots of these scripts in use:
My favorite one, however, is still the Heatmap by @Kumirei!
And, here is an update on my stats on wkstats:
Btw, could someone please tell me what all these different colors mean?
Hope you had a fun time reading this, if not, well, ok, then that’s bad luck I guess
I wish you all merry Chrismas and a happy new year!
By the way, I will master my first items (which are, obviously radicals) around 12pm, so Imma post my stats with my first mastered times here later
As I promised, here is my SRS breakdown, now that I’ve mastered my first items! I’m so happy right now
You are doing great (●’◡’●) good luck .
Thanks a lot! I hope you’ll have as much fun as I do
