[iOS] Tsurukame - native app with offline lessons and reviews

Are we still dealing with database differences? I restarted on WK and just got to level 3 again after a few days. On desktop, WK shows 100 new lessons. On Tsurukame, it only shows 99 lessons. Was there an update to WK that Tsurukame hasn’t added yet?

Yes that’s still a problem

Updating to say reinstalling the app solved this for now. Not sure what caused it.

That’s good to hear

hello! app’s amazing as always. i’m in the early 20s now and i’m finding a few items with different meanings than wanikani assigns them — the 昆 kanji and 工作, just off the top of my head, but there’s a couple others. are these mismatched entries fixed when the app’s database is updated, and if so does the testflight build have this issue?

thanks to @ulnt2048 for what sounds like tireless maintenance work!

Yeah I just ran into this issue myself and was so confused…

it’s easy enough to add synonyms of course, but i’ve stopped doing the lessons on the app. which is fine really, because i like to look at the Keisei semantic-phonetic info while i’m learning anyway

I just noticed a similar thing where 揚 wants the onyomi instead of the kunyomi in reviews.

The weirdest name for a radical: 吉 longcat. I know it’s an old meaning, and discarded by WK long ago, but WTH does even “longcat” means???

Am I missing something here?

longcat is an ancient meme from the prehistory of the internet (i.e. maybe 10-15 years ago), part of the lolcat meme ecology.

longcat vs. tacgnol in an epic battle (longcat is the white one):

lolcats were a major meme back then, including a full bible translation into lolspeak. i was quite fluent in lolspeak myself at the time…

Interesting  Thanks :+1: I guess I missed that meme  Now, I know…

But how does it relate to the radical? Was this radical, or kanji, used for this meme in Japan?

Probably the WK folks just thought it visually resembled the longcat pose a bit. See those little kitty arms sticking out??

Got it. So no relation whatsoever just a pure mnemonic :+1:

Ever since the past couple updates, user input for most on’yomi displays as katakana instead of hiragana. Is this intentional?

You can turn that off in Settings, if you want.

Not sure how I missed that, thought I had checked settings already. Thanks.

I have a big with my lessons. On level 8 曲がる keeps appearing as a vocab item, even the I already did that lesson twice now. It cleared already in WK on the web browser.

I’m using an iPhone SE 2020 and everything is up-to-date.

For a couple of days now i get 3 vocabs in every review. As soon as all reviews are done, it says 3 reviews. Wanikani says 0.
It’s 見分ける ; 切れる and 引き分け. I reviewed them 3 times a day for the last couple of days. They only show up in Tsurukame though.
I logged out and in again, but they’re still there.

Same here, but some people worked it out that it is to do with recent item changes in WK. See @Kraits’ post from another thread.

That’s it, i glanced over that Thread earlier today, but didn’t connect the dots. Thanks.
