At risk of causing another heated debate (honestly, please don’t!)… can I ask you guys if anyone knows what a “geoduck” is?? Some of the words in WK are odd, aren’t they?
It’s a type of huge clam native to the Pacific. BTW the pronunciation is like “gooey duck”.
Thanks @Leebo!
It’s a very phallic looking crustacean, eh? Lol. I think I’ll be able to remember it now. Appreciate the quick response.
Mollusk, but yeah, it’s memorable.
I stand corrected.
You are very knowledgeable about the Geoduck. Lol. Thank you.
BTW, this is actually WK being a bit cheeky with the “real radicals.” The Japanese name for this radical is おおがい (big shellfish)
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure it’s pronounced “geo-dude”
I added geodude as a synonym because geoduck just wasn’t sticking
It is a curious name for an Omanyte who has just graduated college and is very emotional.
It’s probably thinking about its cats (ケツ), who sadly could not be here for this occasion.
This Omanyte has really pored over the 頁 (ページ), and everybody says it has a good 頭 (あたま).
The only thing it still hasn’t mastered is left and right, so it often ends up putting the semantic components of kanji on the right side of phonetic components (頭、顔、題、 願、 頑、 領、 etc.).
It hopes to use its newly acquired knowledge to save its natural habitat, which has been exploited for shale oil (頁岩油).
It used to live among the shale (頁岩) with its cats, but now they’re dead. All its cats - gone (ケツガン).
@pensei, I love this!!! Geodude! Did renaming mess you up down the track with the mnemonics??
@Leebo, after further googling of pictures of this strange, yet memorable mollusc (lol), I think that inadvertently and unknowingly I aptly named this thread question “Geoduck? Wtf? Confusion…”
I mean, seriously… WTF??!
I still think of a [slightly less hideous] geoduck when I answer with geodude, i just added the synonym cause the name geoduck was hard for me to remember at first (it doesn’t look like a duck at all!)
It goes not look like a duck at all… in fact, your “geodude” name fits very well. I mean, let’s face it… that thing looks like, well, politely said, man bits. Lol.
One of the great things in WaniKani is that it often challenges your knowledge about crazy things like that. The reason and the goal is for you to google it, think about it and remember it better.
Here it failed
The Nisqually who named it thought so too.
Exactly what i thought
