I’ve created this thread to have a bit more accountability about my Japanese studies. As I sometimes work until very late, it ends up being quite difficult to attain the speed I want for wanikani.
Goals:
Pass JLTP n2 exam 2026-12-06 (it would be my second attempt).
Complete WaniKani Level 60 by September 2027.
Until I finish WaniKani, do enough lessons so that when measuring them with gaussian kernel smoothing (σ=2), I achieve at least 10 everyday: this basically allows me to compensate if for some reason every so often there’s a day I cannot do enough lessons (I’ve began to self impose me this requirement from 2026-07-23).
Complete the Nihongo So-matome N2 Grammar book before the JLPT exam.
Read visual novels in Japanese (for now these):
Parfait Remake.
Flowers: Le Volume sur Printemps.
Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai.

## 2026-mm-dd (dow): Study Session
[x] reviews, 15 lessons.
I’ve also had the chance to read a few more sections of Parfait Remake (which I’m playing on PC), currently following this walkthrough, on my way to Ema’s true end.
I always like seeing these three widgets together, no more lessons for today, no more pending reviews and no more reviews scheduled for the rest of the day. It feels refreshing, specially when doing 100+ reviews everyday:
I was probably a bit more tired (I woke up at 6:45 after all), so I made a few more mistakes (~10%). Being well rested is certainly important for memorization.
PS: Today I initiated the remaining vocab from level 34.
Since today I did 12 of the 15 lessons in the last 30 minutes of the day and besides being tired from a long day of work, I had a lot of vocabulary (76 words) available, I “skipped” some of the most difficult terms, and yes, I have to agree that I selected a few words that I already knew the meaning… I guess doing that is fine as long as I don’t overdo it, and more or less maintain a balanced cognitive load between days.
PS: Note to self: don’t forget to update my readathon post here!
It was a long day at work, arriving at home after 9PM… One of those days where I just want to finish the reviews as soon as possible even if the ratio of correct answers goes down; then read at least half an hour and go to sleep.
I don’t know why but today it felt a relatively easier day, maybe I had the lowest number of reviews since last week, or maybe it’s because the week is ending and I’m going to be able to rest for a couple of days.
That said tomorrow is the 🍁 2026 Autumn Equinox 24-hour Readathon - 秋分, and I’ll attempt to at least read for 8 hours. This one is going to be my first one, so let’s see how it goes! Looking forward to it!
What a day today! I participated on the readathon I’ve mentioned yesterday, reading a chunk of “Parfait ~Chocolat Second Brew~” (a visual novel) for 10 hours; more or less 57k characters (it really helps that lines from other characters are voiced), but I ended up exhausted… on top of that doing my 15 new lessons and a lot of reviews. As the saying says, too much of anything is bad… or maybe not if it’s a single day every so often
Yesterday I kept reading and finished the “true Ema ending”… it wasn’t certainly what I was expecting, the resolution it felt a bit childish for my taste. So today to compensate yesterday readathon, I’ve read the start of a Kinetik Novel called Harmonia, which since it’s more or less a short one, I might include it in the middle of my to-read list. The plot seems interesting and the visual quality of the drawings is top notch.
Some days I feel like my brain shuts down for a moment. Today I wasn’t able to understand this basic sentence (from the so-matome N3読解): こんなものがあったと言って、古い写真を出してきた。 I was struggling with the “to itte”, until I saw in google translate that it was quite obvious: «Saying, “I had something like this,” he pulled out an old photograph.». It was literally “to say” in te-form.
Long day for sure! After completing one of the tasks I had for today at work, I saw at the clock showing 23:41, knowing that, I immediately began my reviews of the day, marking as failed any item on which I had to spend more than 5 seconds, and even then I’ve managed to get 94% correct (8 mistakes).
Sadly I didn’t have enough time for my usual 15 daily lessons. So, I guess I’ll do them now (shortly after midnight) and have 22 clocked tomorrow.
Finally a more regular day, I even managed to do 5 of the 7 missing lessons from yesterday, 2 more and I’ll be on par with my regular rate; I actually did them, but a few seconds after midnight. I don’t know, I need to have a clear daily goal to achieve some consistency.
Today I did the regular 15 lessons, plus 2 that were pending from the day before yesterday, and one extra one as a punishment for not reaching 15 that day. Hopefully I’ll be able to go back to my regularly scheduled routine of 15 lessons a day.
It’s nice going back to the regularly scheduled 15 lessons/day.
Even though is unrelated to Japanese, yesterday I began a diet of no snacks/cookies/chocolate/alcohol/… nor added salt/sugar, basically the easy stuff to cut. And I’m going to continue the diet at least until I reach 67kg (I’m at 81.7kg right now).
