Recently I’ve been resuming the daily lessons of the 日本語総まとめN2 - 文法, great book, I highly recommend it… Though I wish they would have spent a couple of lines explaining the grammar points; in any case now there are a ton of online resources for getting detailed explanations about them, and so that book works great as a guide.
Tomorrow begins the 📚📚 Read Japanese Every Day Challenge - Fall 2026 🎃🧙♀️ and I’m looking forward to it: today I regrouped my VNs in my Vita so that they are easier to find (I had to use 3 pages of VNs, since I had more than 200 installed, even though I’ve read only a few)
Besides the REDC on which I’m currently attempting to finish my current VN (Parfait Remake), I’ve also did one more day of the nihongo so-matome n2 bunpo, really nice book! Thankfully the weekend is getting near, and I’m going to overindulge in sleeping!
I just remembered to do the daily WaniKani lessons a few minutes before midnight, and so I wasn’t able to complete the 15 ones in time; as a result I guess I’ll have 18 on Saturday… At least I don’t have to work on weekends, so there’s enough time to recover both study and sleep time.
Yay! Today I’ve completed Parfait Remake, so I’m going to be resuming FLOWERS (the first one that corresponds to spring), my goal is to try to make daily progress on it, at least an hour per day.
Another thing I've been able to achieve this last week is doing 7 consecutive days of nihongo so-matome n2 bunpo with the 7th day (which is a longer, recapitulation of the week) falling on Sundays, and if I can continue at this speed, on November 8th I'll be finishing the book.
So letting alone the sleeping pattern, this has been pretty successful week regarding Japanese studies.
A long day, a lot of reviews, and since it’s the 7th day of the so-matome book, there were 5 pages of studying… after that all I want to do is to listen to some soothing music like:
I was so tired today that I fell asleep while doing the new lessons, waking up after midnight, so even though I had a absurdly high number of reviews I wasn’t able to reach my 15 new lessons.
After reading about the 次第 grammars for several hours, now I’ve managed to understand it even less, how to use it, what those sentences mean… in the end it feels like I’ll have to learn a bunch of set phrases and then nantonaku everything else.
To my understanding 次第 represent a sequence of steps and is then flavored by the particle that follows it, do you have examples of sentences where the meaning is unclear ?
Hi @YandrosTheSane, thanks for writing, in particular I’ve been having some issues with 次第です: for example:
日時の変更について、改めてお知らせする次第です。
I will inform you later of any changes in the time and the place of the meeting.
With the book saying (=知らせるわけです)… so is the book arguing that in this case it would be something like “So the situation is that we will inform you.”? And it feels like 次第です could also behave as a 次第で (depending on), a <V-masu>次第 (as soon as).
At the end I feel like it might be fundamentally about the way, order, or circumstances in which something proceeds…
Oops, tonight I forgot about doing the new lessons, so I ended up studying them after midnight. Curiously the lesson for today on the so-matome was super easy and I already knew them (にこたえて、に対して、により and にかかわって) a very welcome surprise.
Very literal structure matching:
[date and time]の [change/alteration]related to, (another time / again / intentionally)(will notify)(upon/depending on reaching that step)
=>
(“upon reaching the step” of “changes related to date or time”) (⍉が) will notify you .
I hope it’s clearer . The “meeting” and the “I” are context dependent and not strictly present.
