Extremely Slow on Chrome

Hi, is anyone else having issues with Wanikani loading VERY slowly in Chrome? When I try to do my reviews, I first have to wait for the home page to load properly, and then bringing up reviews there is such a lag that it will not register my first three or four answers. To be clear, I don’t use any extensions/scripts. I tried doing reviews in Safari and it loads quicker but I hate using Safari and never had this problem before (I just purchased lifetime at the end of the sale and this lag started within the last week). It doesn’t appear to be happening on other websites for me, so I thought I’d ask. Thanks!

UPDATE: As recommended by Wantitled, I disabled adblock in Chrome and it solved the problem immediately. Hope that helps someone else!

Strange, I’m using Chrome too and WK seems to be working normally for me…

Don’t know about chrome, I use duck duck go on iPad, you can try it. Or the Tsurukame app for iOS.

Wanikani has been a unresponsive at times for me in recent days
My PC is masterrace and internet is 800 Mbit/s

I’ll try disabling addons or switching browsers, but I suspect the Wanikani’s server(s) needs a maintenance

I have been seeing exactly this ever since the last big update (the one where the summary page was removed). However, I am generally using Firefox, but see the same thing if using Chrome as well. When I launch a review session, I have to wait about 30 seconds, sometimes more, before I can start. I have taken to watching the page loading progress in the status bar to know when I can start. If I start before everything is finally loaded, anything I input is just ignored.

Just a complete shot in the dark but if you have adblock installed, try disabling it and seeing if that’ll help. It probably won’t but it’s worth a shot if you’re stumped.

Recently switched from Chrome to Firefox with great outcome.

Wantitled recommended to disable adblock in Chrome and it worked like a charm! Maybe that will help you too.

It’s all fixed now, but thanks for the Tsurukame recommendation anyways. Going to check it out!

I wonder why does WK have issues with adblock – WK doesn’t have any ads… Maybe, they are using some code libraries for Google (which does have an issue with adblock)…

I’ve been having similar issues with youtube recently despite having youtube premium so I never get any ads anyway. I’m pretty sure it’s unrelated since the youtube thing seems like malice on youtube’s part, but either way there’s definitely stuff happening in the background with adblock.

Adblock is basically string pattern matching against URLs and similar, so if a website makes unfortunate naming choices for files and/or the adblock has an update that’s accidentally too broad in what it matches that can give false positives.

If a particular adblocker is breaking WK it should be possible to report that to the adblocker project and get the filter improved, but for a known-good site you use often the simpler thing is just to disable it on this site entirely.
