Though I can only speak for myself, I’m only upset with myself that I ruined your great gesture. Definetly not upset at you nor Tofugu, no worries. Again, really sorry that I ruined it, but it was a great gesture, you shouldn’t feel bad, really didn’t even entertain the possibility that this was some sort of giveaway.
I do want to apologise again for the part I played in de-railing your gift. I’m sure that once this gets fixed the people on the list will appreciate the gesture all the more, as they got a great story to go along with it!
I was the one who suggested codes if it made their lives easier. Please remember this is not a part of their official duties. They went out of their way to do extra work for an anonymous community member. Please do not say harsh words about them.
If anyone is to be blamed, that would me. Maybe I should have come out straight up and stopped. But I thought it was just people fooling around and while I understand you maybe upset, Please do not take it out on them.
I can only speak for myself, but now knowing what it was I’m in no way upset. If anything I feel bad that a nice thing you tried to do for some other community members turned into such a huge ordeal.
I do agree with @DaisukeJigen, though, that this wasn’t exactly handled super well. Precisely because of Tofugu’s history with ARGs and for no other reason
Codes yes. A simple code, on a page anyone can get to, front the front page, terrible.
A better option would have been a page that isn’t linked to from anywhere, with a unique hash for each person.
@KyokaJiro i’m really sorry that it turned out like this, i hope that i didn’t do anything to make it worse
i just didn’t want to try to stop the people who didn’t get the email because i feel like it’s not my place to do anything like that, but maybe i should have said something
and i don’t think your request wasn’t selfish, it was the opposite. and i feel super grateful that you decided to include me in your list to give gifts to. that’s something that i won’t ever forget
Alternate Reality games. They did one in 2018 and 2019 apparently. It’s a treasure hunt type thing, so people thought it was similar, see Descent of the Durtle into eGoooott - NOW AT B8! for an example.
You really shouldn’t blame yourself. It’s still a heartwarming gesture. And at least one thing’s supposed to go wrong every Christmas party isn’t there? It’s practically a Christmas tradition
While the turnout didn’t exactly end it the best way, I don’t think you should have to feel personally responsible for the end result. I think it was actually a lovely idea that we on the form just took a little too seriously.
I’m not upset exactly, just annoyed. You’re intentions were pure, I commend you for that. But they way it was executed got people excited, at the game and the prize. Not mad I didn’t get a prize or anything, but the wild goose chase was a bummer.
Again. You have to understand it is holiday season and some of the members maybe on vacation and they might have plans with their families, their gifts buying trips etc.
And I am sure they wanted to this to be before Christmas as to make it special. It was not a planned event. I literally reached out to them over last weekend. Considering the speed with which they moved, it is admirable. I don’t think either Tofugu team or I expected this to happen. I told them if anyone is confused and reach back to them by email, they can give my username.
I truly didn’t expect this to happen in all the scenarios I thought of.
I am definitely not upset at you or anyone for this, and I am very very sorry for my part in ruining your surprise. Planning all of this is such a lovely gesture! Please don’t feel bad.
I’m sorry for claiming the gift and for helping others essentially steal your present. I hope this all gets sorted because it was such a wonderful gesture from you and I wouldn’t want to take away from that.
I don’t think the surprise was ruined. The thought is what counts, isn’t it? @KyokaJiro don’t feel bad for your good intentions im sorry for tagging you so many times lol
