Tonight, I hit level 50, so I decided to start keeping track of how long I spend on Wanikani and post a log to show new users what it really takes to do two levels a week at the end.
Anyway, here’s today’s stats. Apparently, I spent over two hours on WK today. Note that it takes a long time to go through all the kanji lessons and initial Apprentice reviews when first leveling up, which means that WK takes a lot longer on the days when I level up. I’m hopefully not going to be spending anywhere near that much time on the non-levelup days.
November 14:
Total time spent on Wanikani today: 126 minutes (2 hours, 6 minutes)
Reviews today: 417
Accuracy: 85.13% (355/417)
I didn’t realize there was a script to do this. I was just writing down the start and end times for each WK session.
In case anyone was curious, here were my times
Nov 14:
5:42 - 5:53
6:44 - 6:58
10:51 - 10:53
16:16 - 16:41
17:12 - 17:16
18:10 - 19:04 (this is when I leveled up and did the new kanji lessons, hence why it’s so long. The actual reviews only took 15 minutes)
20:40 - 20:44
22:07 - 22:19
Things picked up a lot compared to yesterday. I spent over an hour and a half on WK today. Probably due to me getting lazy yesterday and not doing as many lessons as planned.
November 16:
Level: 50
Total time spent on Wanikani today: 91 minutes
Reviews in the last day: 407
Accuracy: 76.41% (311/407)
Today I leveled up again, which meant another brutal two hour+ day on Wanikani. The mounting load is definitely starting to get to me. At least there’s only five weeks left to go.
November 18:
Level: 51
Total time spent on Wanikani today: 133 minutes (2 hours, 13 minutes)
Reviews in the last day: 446
Accuracy: 85.65% (382/446)
I’m surprised how it seems like everyone else is doing reviews much more slowly than I am. Is this just an artifact of using different methods of measuring time, or are you really going through the reviews more slowly?
I often stop at one item, because I don’t recognize the kanji at once or don’t remember the meaning or reading and have to try to remember the mnemonics. At errors I look up the items with which I confused and try to memorize the difference.
I don’t know how accurately the time on WK is measured by the heatmap script, at longer pauses it assumes that you have interrupted your session. I suppose the real time that I spend on WK is rather longer than that shown (plus the time in the community).
My days with more than 300 reviews were all in months #2-#4 of my membership, when I still did all the lessons as soon as they became available. My biggest number of reviews was 352 in Dec 2019 at level 11.
