Conjugation question: 眠れなくなって?

I more or less understand the meaning of the sentence below but I have no idea what conjugation is being used for 眠, potential form? Actually, I have no idea if it is the verb 眠る or the adjective 眠い that is being used.

眠れなくなって十七日めになる。

I’d say it’s Jisho.org: Japanese Dictionary in potential negative

For, “became unable to sleep”.

You’re turning 眠れな into 眠れなくなって.

So does that mean, “This is the 17th day that I’ve been unable to sleep.” ?! :flushed:

This is my guess, it is the opening sentence of Murakami’s “Nemuri”

More like, this will be the 17th day that I have been unable to sleep, I think.

Edit: not so different, I realize, haha
