So when I go through my reviews and a kanji/vocab pops up that I know the meaning of but I dont know the typing/spelling/sound of, is it cheating to once ive correctly gotten the meaning to then open up the card and double check the spelling knowing it’ll be showing up shortly?
Well yes, it is. Who cares though, you’re only cheating yourself, if it works for you because you want to focus on meanings first for instance or because you know you’ll have other opportunities to review the readings, then why not.
Wanikani is just a tool to bootstrap your kanji and vocab knowledge and get you to the point where you can start reading real Japanese. SRS purists worship screwdrivers.
Yes, it’s “cheating”. It’s not how the SRS system was intended to be used and is almost certain to stunt your own growth.
Like simias said though, your life. You don’t leave this site with a certificate or anything. The only thing you will have to show for all your time on here is your Japanese skill, and if you wanna leave it on the table that’s your call
