I’ve been absent for more or less half a year now. I’m on lvl 12 and have 1100 burned items on my acc. I wanna get back into it and was wondering whether I should use the feature to redo burned items or not? Half a year is not THAT long, right? I still should be able to read most of them I would think.
The thing is its gonna be a slog getting back into it as it is. I’ve got 700 reviews and 100 new lessons already waiting for me.
But how is it in your experience? Is it a useful thing to do? Has anybody ever done it after being away from the Crabinator?
I would say don’t bother with burned items until you’ve got your reviews under control. The burned items make sense you might not remember them, but the idea is that they stay in your memory so when you see them in the wild (like in a book etc) there’s a higher chance of remembering them.
Things in your review piles will probably have some items up for burn reviews too, if you forget those ones, it’ll automatically bring them back down to guru or apprentice so no worries there. The slog of doing reviews that you don’t quite remember will be a long journey, so no need to unburn things and only add to your apprentice items. Apprentice items come back at least twice in one day if they are on the first stage of learning, so if you want reviews to go down, try to limit the apprentice items.
Just keep going until your apprentice items return to something about like 120 items or however many you like, don’t do lessons until you are at a number of reviews that you are comfortable with, and then add more to the pile then. Then, and only then, would doing lessons or unburning some kanji you forgot before be something feasible.

I do not know of a native feature that let you test your burned items but in that thread there an in depth explanation on how to use the item inspector userscript for it.
Yeah, I think it’s best if I just keep crushing those reviews. And your last bit is good advice. Not that I would have done 700 reviews on one day But still. Not doing too much in a short period of time seems like a good way to ease back into it!
