It took me 7 levels to notice that there was a retype button on the bottom left corner during reviews. At the very end of a nearly flawless run through level 6 with zero kanji mistakes I mindlessly typed “world” instead of “earth” for the 地 Kanji. Shamefully, I looked for options and saw the symbol for redo/undo at the bottom right of the review screen. I feel kind of dumb for taking so long to realize this, as I could potentially be further ahead if I had realized this sooner. Not sure if anyone else went through the same thing, but if there’s the possibility that anyone else hasn’t realized this, A retype button does exist.
Edit: There are a bunch of replies saying this option is nonexistent without userscripts. I started using userscripts a few weeks ago, including one called “WaniKani Double-Check”. I’m never looked into how to use it, as I intend to take responsibility for my mistakes and prioritize learning before just passing the levels. Now that I know that I have this option, I’ll still continue to accept the consequences for mistakes, besides hugely consequential slip-ups like the one I had this morning.
Is it possible you have a userscript running or something? From everything I’ve read on here, the standard design very intentionally does not allow you the ability to correct answers marked as incorrect.
Yeah, you’re right. I Just realized that’s why. It’s probably damaging to learners that might take advantage of it too much, but now I’m realizing that It’ll be useful at times.
Glad you figured it out… I don’t think it’s necessarily a problem for people to use userscript features in a way that suits them. This is really just a program to learn Kanji, so if someone thinks that using a re-type option won’t hurt their learning, or they are able to work harder if they prioritize progression over perfection, it certainly doesn’t bother me.
I looked at the userscript guide when I started, and I couldn’t figure out what was going on at all, so I don’t have any. I do use Tsurukame for iPhone, though, and that has some userscripts built in. I actually do use its version of Retype (“ask me again later”) when I legitimately mis-typed something. But that’s a lot easier to do on a phone, I think.
