Breaking Up Reviews into Smaller Sizes

Hello,

I was away and couldn’t do reviews for three days in a row and I have 177 to do. Is there a way of breaking up these reviews into smaller sections so I don’t need to sit through them and do them all at once?

Thanks,

Joseph

You can hit the little clock button to wrap up a review partway through. It’ll end your review session after the next ten reviews.

You can also just stop your review at any point. There’s no penalty for doing so.

However, if you do stop your review session without hitting the wrapup (clock) button, there will probably be some issues with the half-finished items (i.e. you only answered reading or meaning, but not both).

It’s probably worth clarifying that “some issues” doesn’t mean anything actually bad. You’ll just have to redo the half-completed reviews later.

@timfreilly @Saruko - Thank you very much for responding so quickly and for your help. All the best.

If I have a lot of reviews and not a lot of free time I’ll sometimes hit the wrap-up clock right at the beginning of my review session, and slowly knock out 10 reviews at a time whenever I have a spare minute :+1:

I’m almost at level 8 and did not know about the clock button

To be fair, it’s easy to miss. You’re certainly not the only person who didn’t know that’s what it did.

Do you guys have an interactive tutorial or anything like that?

Nope, not yet. We’ve talked a little bit about ways to do better onboarding for WaniKani, but I don’t think there are any definitive plans.

Would something like a short tutorial video be manageable in the short term while larger plans are worked out?

same, I tend to have tons of small review moments but not many sit down and bang out moments. That clock is a life saver, I just hit it going in, worse case, I go back in and hit the clock again if I have more time.

There are a couple of good review/tutorial videos on youtube. This is one of the ones that I watched just before joining, and the guy does a good job of going through the site and all the features.

My reviews also build up - I work several days in a row, no breaks, no lunch. So on days off, I sometimes take an hour and a half and clear them all out. But I learn better in little chunks rather than clearing out 225 at once.

Just a series of overlays (click to move to the next one or dismiss) with arrows and circles and short text descriptions to introduce all the elements of the UI doesn’t sound like it’d be a lot of effort to implement. Many sites/apps have these.
