Being asked to sign in every visit

Hi, is this happening for anyone else? Every time I open the app I’m asked to sign in, and the password my phone remembers is rejected, so I have to pretend I forgot it, click on the link from the email then “reset” it to the one my phone remembers. It’s a pain!

Which app are you talking about? There hasn’t been released an official WK app by Tofugu yet AFAIK

Also, on the browser, I had something similar because I saved my username and password as the login details, but then I found out that it actually asks for your email adress at the login screen, not your username. Perhaps that’s your problem as well?

Oops sorry, I have it as a shortcut on my phone and it says “wanikani app” at the top so I’d not registered that it was just opening the browser.
Good tip on the username vs email one and I remember having that issue a while back but now I’m definitely attempting login with my email right from the start and still failing!

Hmm, are you sure you have the right email and password?

Btw, usually, there should be an option - “Remember me” - that you can enable so that you stay signed in and don’t have to log in again until you sign out. It should be at the login screen. (Only works if you don’t have private mode enabled, though)

@HelenL: It really sounds like something going on specifically with your setup. There are a lot of things that can cause these sorts of issues, so it’s good to narrow it down a bit. I’d suggest trying the following:

  1. Make sure that your OS and browser are up to date (e.g. chrome://settings/help ) and restart the device

  2. Force the browser to refresh the webpage (e.g. Shift-Reload)

  3. Log out and log in again

  4. Clear cookies/cache (e.g. Delete, allow and manage cookies in Chrome - Computer - Google Chrome Help )

  5. Try a new profile without signing in ( Use Chrome with multiple profiles - Computer - Google Chrome Help )

  6. Try a different browser, different device, etc. and see if you get a different result

Happy to help troubleshoot based on what you find!

Just to add to the other answers:
Check if you have cookies enabled and if there are Wanikani cookies to be found after you login. I for example have a cookie purger that deletes all cookies the moment I close a tab in my browser, look through your extensions if there is something similar.

OOOps, I meant to reply to OP!

Every now and then Duolingo would not let me login (saying my password is wrong, EVEN THOUGH it’s correct). When it happens, I clear my cache, close Chrome, open it, bring up Duolingo and then it lets me in.

Then it started to happen more frequently. I used to leave Duolingo on my tabs in Chrome to easily bring it up. But now when I’m done, I close the tab and open Duolingo whenever I want to use it. This, for some reason, seems to be working for now.

Good luck in finding a solution for yourself

Did you mean WaniKani?

No, the REAL Duolingo

As someone once posted about me, I’m the fake one, imposter, wannabe, nobody…I forget the exact words. I felt that person was offended by my choice of name. But that’s what I chose for the years in Duolingo and I just kept it when I signed up with WK and later BP as well!

I guess I didn’t realize Duolingo had a web app, so the comments about logging into it in Chrome confused me substantially.
