"Keep me logged in" never works

As the subject title says, checking off the option doesn’t really do anything for me. I have to log in again even if it’s the same day.

Honestly, I wish my account didn’t even have a login or password. If someone steals my laptop, I don’t think they’re going to study my flashcards. There isn’t really any sensitive information I have to protect, so I don’t understand the need for login credentials. “Oh no, someone stole my computer and leveled me up??” lol I’ll be fine.

You should be able to access your account with just an IP address if you wish.

They could sign you up for a lifetime subscription.
They could reset you to level 1.
They could go on the forum and post a bunch of inflammatory stuff under your name.

Just being contrary.

I THINK this means if you don’t log out, you will remain logged in for two weeks after which you’ll be automatically logged out if you’re not actively using the website. So, if you’re done with your studies and close your browser, when ever you bring up WK again, you will find yourself still logged in.

But WHENEVER you logout, you will NEED to log back in again! Try it out

Well, I just logged out and logged back in with ‘keep me logged in’ checked. I then closed my browser, restarted browser, clicked on WK and there I was already logged in. Repeated process again and still found myself logged in.

Sorry, it does work for me as intended.

Password manager is the solution.

I login to my password manager once per day on my computer (on mobile it uses finger print) and then it auto fills all of my passwords for me, including 2fa codes.

Then the pain of being logged out of places is non-existent.

As for your account not being kept logged in, make sure you have cookies enabled for WaniKani, and check your browser settings. If you’re deleting your history and cookies frequently (can happen with software like CCleaner) then that’s why it is happening.

Alternatively if you use a VPN or have a dynamic IP address that changes frequently, that could also be why.

If you are using in-private browsing it’ll also never keep you logged in as it deletes the login cookie when you close the window, but im sure you arent doing this, so I didnt think to mention it.

But now I have, so hopefully you’re not ^^.

Sometimes this is a cookie issue. If you browse in private or have cookies set to clear on browser close (even on occasion third-party cookies) this can stop remained logged in from working. Worth a look. Oops. I see someone else answered this while I was having breakfast. Apologies for the repeated information.

i have found this to be an issue when logging in on my phone
next time i go on desktop, it’s logged out
also sometimes it’ll just randomly log me out, but maybe some of them are two weeks apart without me realising, so :person_shrugging:

Just to say I also experience this on the phone only. I have an iphone and use safari browser not in private browsing mode and every time i come to wanikani i need to relogin. Yes I use a password manager so its no big deal but the “stay logged in for 2 weeks” button does nothing for me and its a minor annoyance.
