I’ve been thinking about a way to show the answer quicker if I got a kanji wrong. Maybe it can show up automatically after a wrong answer, or maybe a hotkey like [.]. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

The hotkey for showing item info is “F”. Then you can expand it further with spacebar.

During reviews, there’s an icon in the bottom right corner that looks like a keyboard (if I’m remembering correctly). Click this to see all of the shortcuts.
I’m not sure if there are any add-ons that do this, but the Wanikani companion extension does this automatically:
