Are there any good manga to read at Mangadex or Namicomi?

Hi all. I’m level 9 here at WK, looking for some easy 日本語 to read.

I’ve been searching for manga at Mangadex and Namicomi but a little confused. At Mangadex I’ve seen some in Japanese but also many of them say “This title contains no chapters. Browse the recommendations below!”.

Similar case at Namicomi. When I specify language = Japanese in search filters many of the results are Japanese and above my level or in English.

Have you read good ones at these sites or others? Thanks for any recs!

Here are some good sites with legally free manga:

If it doesn’t have to be free – then the best site is

The concept of Mangadex and similar sites is (cough) not entirely above-board, and as such is not entirely permitted as a topic for discussion on these boards. But yes, as Trunky pointed out, there are legitimate free manga sites. Comic Fuz is an online manga publisher; you can read the current chapters of series for free (though not all past chapters, unfortunately).

Mangadex was hit with a massive wave of DMCA takedown notices from all the big Japanese publishers in May last year, which is why so many of the series have no chapters.

I’m fine to pay at bookwalker. I’m browsing the site and there’s so much.

I can see the menu of manga including for 少年, 青年, 女子, etc. Are there any you recommend?

I happened upon one called カナカナ which includes furigana so it might be doable.

If you’re trying to figure out what out of everything there would suit your current level, I recommend you to check out the levels on this free website: Japanese Books Difficulty List | Natively

There the users read manga/novels (or watch shows) and compare how hard they were compared to other things they read (or watched). So you end up with relative difficulty levels for each series.

I’m not doing WK (just using the forums for reading challenges) so I’m not sure where level 9 would map to, but here are some examples and then you can check digital samples for mangas of different levels to see where you’re comfortable to start~

No furigana but relatively easy because the text is not dense and the chapters are very short

Furigana & short chapters:

Furigana & high school romance, which tends to limit the vocab to everyday conversations:

Has furigana but the vocab is so broad and/or text is dense so it’s more effort:

And

Cool, I’ll explore these. Thanks so much.
