I found a couple of distressing science news articles, about plans to farm octopuses on a large scale. There are a lot of questions as to how the animals would be raised, but even more so regarding how they plan to kill the animals, through prolonged suffering: freezing to death.
Legislation is pending to afford more protections to cephalopods, so this initiative isn’t running in line with current best practices right now. The same method for killing fish has already been deemed inhuman, and more fish species are about to get the same protections.
I hope we can find better solutions to the problem of humans needing ever more food to eat.
I’m just asking myself as to why it had to be a kid reading this info? Not that I don’t think they should have any problem knowing about any of the words and such, but why not a professional narrator? Surely, a kid isn’t! (i guess, I just makes me unease…after all, I don’t really wanna have children’s voice + any reproduction activity in the same message considering weird implications and whatnot could happen to that narration. I feel paranoid, but I think this is what got to me. The sense of danger, in today’s climate&possibility of AI abuse. just, don’t wanna follow where depressing thought leads…
Beautiful serene footage from North Queensland, Australia. The commentary is great as well: fish and plant species are properly named and some of the fish behaviors explained.
Also, I had no idea crabs could jump! It’s like a game of don’t touch the floor.
Fun fact: conger eels, 穴子 あなご don’t all go after crustaceans. Those that do, have blunt teeth for crushing shells. Those that hunt fishies, have sharp pointy teeth appropriate for their favored prey.
