I’m taking Japanese classes, I’m around N4 level. Grammar and kanji is mostly ok, but I’m extremely bad with vocabulary.
I’m trying to use native materials, something fun. I started playing ni no kuni, and is manageable, but I only understand like 20% of the words in each sentence, and having to search for words in each dialog is removing all the fun.
I tried watching shirokuma cafe, and I didn’t understand anything. non non biyori is a bit better, but I’m still missing a lot.
I think it would be extremely helpful to improve my vocabulary so that activities are more enjoyable.
Wanikani and Bunpro has been amazing tools, so I was thinking if there was any similar app but for vocabulary. I hate Anki, can’t help it, I don’t like the interface, and also I’d like to input the answer like the other tools. Memrise community courses were pretty good, but they now removed them from the app, terrible business decision
Is there any good app, focused on vocabulary, with a decent interface, that requires to input the answer and is based in core/frequency decks?
Maybe Clozemaster, although I never used it for Japanese so I can’t fully recommend it.
I personally used Anki for vocab, but it doesn’t fulfill all your prerequisites out if the box because most decks don’t let you input the answer by default. I believe that this behavior is customizable but I never tried myself.
bunpro also has vocabulary decks, although you have to choose whether it asks you for the english meaning from a japanese prompt, or the japanese reading from an english prompt / fill in the blank sentence.
Kitsun.io has a popular deck containing several thousand common vocab words that are missing from WaniKani, if you feel like WaniKani works for you and you want something that fills its gaps.
lol, I haven’t noticed that. bunpro seems pretty good, and it keeps lessons and reviews in grammar and vocab separated. It would be better if it was a frequency deck instead of jlpt, but I guess is better to stay with one platform.
