Answering by using our voice would be an amazing feature and time save.
I’m so bored of typing and typos after having returned to lvl 10 after a 4 hear hiatus. Smouldering Durtles is great for with the undo button, but being able to answer via voice would save sooooo much time typing.
Pro:
Ai can probably recognise both English and Japanese by now.
actually having minor training method for speaking
having spoken the words multiple times, you should be more confidently saying them IRL or in VR.
Make wanikani even better and is advertisable
Non-native english speakers with thick accents can also train their english pronunciations
Con:
It will cost time and resources for the company overlords
possibly an added subscription for those that want that additional feature
non english speakers with accents might get aggrevated
English natives with thicc accent in Japanese might get aggrevated or start to learn pronounce better
i think you can just install a dictation app or userscript if you feel that strongly. from what I see wanikani only adds things that the community believes is a resounding must and leave everything else to userscripts. it would be neat and help with memorization and practice but unnecessary to add tbh
As a native English speaker who struggles with voice recognition software (it’s not just accents), saying the meanings is a terrible idea.
It would be neat to have an option to practice the Japanese pronunciation, but it doesn’t feel like something wanikani would add as that’s not their focus. Also, it wouldn’t (for me at least) be a time saving thing, it would be another form of studying.
