I just found The Blue Hearts recently searching through some Japanese music threads on another website. Really enjoying them. It’s kind of been difficult for me to find 80s-90s Japanese punk rock bands.

Jun Togawa is one of my all time favorites! Anything she’s touched is great, from her solo work to all she did with YAPOOS. She’s really punk rock in her own way lol

Some of you know this song from well known movie Kill Bill directed by Quentin Tarantino. The movie Lady Snowblood, in which the leading actress is Meiko Kaji, was an inspiration for Quentin Tarantino in the creation of Kill Bill. This old song from Lady Snowblood was used in Kill Bill. If you are into old japanese movies, i strongly encourage you to watch those, in which Meiko played leading actress.

Anyway, I don’t know if this is cheating, since it’s late, late 90s, but I unashamedly love two of the bestselling artists that debuted at the end of that era, 椎名林檎 (Sheena Ringo) and 宇多田ヒカル (Utada HIkaru).
