Hope everyone is ready for their Visual kei deep dive that goes with 8. ![]()
Trying to recruit for the Nana club, I see.
You know… I just realized that I don’t think of トラネス or バラスト as visual kei…
Definitely punk, but a much more western inspired look. Especially since I think it’s mentioned that Nana’s songs are in English.
I could go on but instead people will have to join us reading NANA. ![]()
Fair enough, it came to mind because I think you mentioned it recently. I agree that the visual style is not as extreme as full blown visual kei bands, although it’s adjacent at times I think.
Anyway, I count on you for all the V-kei lore when we get to VIII.
NANA x Final Fantasy would be a very fun cross over, you two just got my imagination going running wild…
I have joined the dark side fully. In my defense I had it together until week 1. But when week 2 started I couldn’t control myself and finished the whole game. HOW ARE YOU GUYS ABLE TO DO IT?![]()
Thoughts on my first JRPG
The story was too good. I couldn’t help myself. Please 許してくれ
Yeah we’re going at a glacial pace for those who are proficient enough at Japanese to read everything casually. I hope you’ll join us for the sequels, I’ll steadily ramp up the pace to prepare us for the behemoths that await us when we reach the PlayStation games.
A combination of too many clubs and specifically for me, elbow tendonitis that probably doesn’t want me holding a controller for more than about an hour at a time.
Absolutely. I thouroughly enjoyed the game. I will be lurking around the thread anyways for the discussion
.
Awwww. I hope you get better soon.
Still managing all the clubs and keeping up with it is a skill that eludes me.
Huge respect chief
.
My trick is having bad Japanese, that I haven’t read anything harder than Yotsuba haha.
This weeks thoughts
Garland POKED TO DEATH in about 6 moves, the stabby team keeps on chugging along.
I really appreciate the slow pace and am super pumped to see how much faster and stronger I get at Japanese by the time we get to my favorite, ff5.
Also, the spreadsheet is phenomenal, it really makes getting through the text so much easier!
FFV is one of my favourites too! It’s also very action-driven from the start, so not overloaded with Japanese. That’s going to be a fun one to do in a club format I think.
I agree that it’s phenomenal ![]()
I had planned to take notes while playing, do look ups and so on… well, couldn’t make myself do it beyond week 1, just want to play the game when I play the game.
But thanks to the spreadsheet I can go back and look at the vocab I didn’t know / sentences I didn’t understand! (not to mention the dialog skipped too fast by mistake or the cut scenes that can’t be paused). Very appreciated!
Do you plan / think it feasible to keep the “every Dialogue is in the spreadsheet” going for the rest of the playthrough? It’s so useful, to just yomitan my way through the dialogue since I’m still at a quite beginnerish level. But it also looks like a lot of work ![]()
That’s my intention. I stopped at week 7 because I wanted to get some feedback before committing to the rest, but given that people seem to like it this way I’ll continue eventually.
May I suggest that you move the “not yet released” weeks to another place that only you can see?
That might prevent people from playing ahead (asking for a friend)
That would teach those filthy preplayers!
Says @trunklayer the filthy preplayer ![]()
I found a way that’s sure to deter you.
It took me literally 20 minutes to manage to add an image to the spreadsheet using the android app. The design is very human.
Oh actually I just remembered that there’s another reason I haven’t started transcribing the rest of the game: I’m not sure in what order we’ll decide to tackle the various tasks in the mid-game. Until a certain point the game is almost completely linear, but eventually it opens up and we have a few options.
But I can still just transcribe everything and then shuffle things around if we decide to do things in a different order, so it’s not a big deal.
Oh and by the way are the weekly vocab lists useful? I’ve only generated week 1 and 2 so far.
They’ve been helpful for me. I was using them to make Anki cards the week before, and was just looking at what I’d need to do to generate week 3’s myself. I’m still lugging a dictionary around for some lines, but there’s other lines I’m breezing through because I’ve pre-learned, for example, きさま and 手先.
Got it, I’ll generate week 3 tonight or tomorrow.
