So, 但馬牛, at the bottom of the chapter’s first page, is a strain of the 黒毛和種 (Japanese Black) breed, and 但馬牛 which are specifically raised in Hyogo Prefecture are the only cows whose meat may be marketed as Kobe beef.
Is this whole universe conspiring to ensure that Kiyo is Sumire’s sole source of comfort foods?
I’ve never come across ステーキ丼 before. Might have to rectify that during my next trip. Though I confess I’m not entirely sure how it’s an improvement on 牛丼.
At the bottom of the chapter’s fifth page, they’re at the Gion bus stop just outside Yasaka Shrine. On the following page, the number 12 bus goes direct from Yasaka to Kinkakuji, though as it terminates just a few stops later at Ritsumeikan University, I’m not entirely certain exactly where they’ve gone shopping on the page after.
Cliffhanger ending! Is Kiyo coming down with a cold?
Well that was a bit of a twist resolution to last week’s cliffhanger. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a manga or anime character come down with the flu before… well, aside from that chapter of Yotsuba when Dad and Jumbo died of インフルエンド.
Though, considering how strictly they control the activities of the maiko in the series so far, I feel like a case of the flu in the house should necessitate a complete quarantine. As in, Kiyo (and maybe even Riko) would be removed to a separate location until she’s better.
I thought they meant Kiyo became an influencer originally and was very confused lol. I thought "when did she have the spare time to do that, and where is this manga even going now?
… Wasn’t the whole premise of this series that they were desperate to hire Kiyo as makanai because their regular one was injured and they were so sick of the home-delivered bento? Why are we now having the exact opposite storyline?
(Though, I guess expecting us to accept that home-delivered bento - especially ones in an area like Gion - could ever be unappetising is already a stretch in the first place. )

I don’t know anything about meals in Japan, but I think volume one had pre-made store-bought bento, and this volume has freshly made meals (with menus and everything).
After she started describing the picnic in detail, it was inevitable that something was going to interrupt it, but I was anticipating the weather. Or maybe a relapse of Kiyo’s flu. Though it seems somewhat unfair that she gets robbed of her day off just because the hairdresser is taking a day off…
