Took me far too long to figure out why Kiyo is going ハーイッ。押忍‼ at the bottom of sixth page - she’s providing voices for the 鍋の者.
But yeah, I dunno that I’d describe Sumire as “cute” either.

Welp, today I learnt that オムレット in Japanese refers to a pancake-thickness sponge cake.
Can you really bend a slice of sponge cake that much without it crumbling, though?
Also I knew the instant Kiyo paused her cake-making process to imagine the remaining steps that the cake would not be happening as planned. The ol’ trope of how speaking the plan aloud means it’s guaranteed to fail.
Yeah, it is weird that it wouldn’t just break down the middle, but I guess that’s just a testament to how spongy it is!

Oh, there’s a sequel. Wasn’t expecting that.
I can’t work out if the end of this chapter feels like a happy ending, or just a painful consolation prize…
Happy ending.
For me at least.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen ryakuji written in that particular style before - usually in manga they’re used in handwritten scrawls. You’ve got the room there, Koyama-sensei, write it out in full. ![]()
I really want to try this recipe!! With vegetarian soup though.
She says it goes good with anko… or maybe mushroom soup? Would that be crazy?

So, I went looking up hoshimochi because it feels odd that they eat it straight, especially since they all complain about it drying up their mouths. Kirimochi, the more widespread version of dried mochi, is generally cooked before eating. And yeah, I found this page that says it’s an Aomori specialty that’s usually eaten straight. Or fried in butter.
I want to try it!!
Just make sure you have a glass of water on hand, apparently. ![]()
It makes sense, it would be pure starch and sugar, sounds very mouth drying hahaha
