Reckon she’s got time to grow her hair out. She’ll spend a while as an apprentice before she becomes a maiko - in Sumire’s case, it was noteworthy how fast she was promoted.
Oh yeah, another chapter that makes me go “wow, being a maiko looks like such fun [/s]”.
Love the website with the “English” button - quintessential Japan tourism website. I had a look around to see if I could find any that match these exactly, and I failed, but the general idea is there. They’re even advertising 2025 tickets already.
On the seventh page, it took me far too long to work out why the two girls were so surprised to see each other getting up in the final panel - thought the SFX in the third panel was her alarm going off, but I eventually figured out that it was her brain at work.
First time I saw this phenomenon happening somehow (青 being green traffic light) and went a bit into why. Gotta say, the japanese find the funniest ways to rename things hahaha, between this and the ガラケー they don’t stop surprising me
This is such a good chapter. I like the symmetry between the two characters who are at odds, and I feel like 小山sensei really captures the rhythm of kitchen chores and the way they can leave you feeling refreshed. Also liked her story about her mom’s すり鉢 and how it makes her feel about her own one.
