白夜王国 and 暗夜王国

I’ve been playing ファイアエムブレムif, game’s great. I have a couple questions regarding the names of the game’s main factions.

白夜・王国
Read it as: ひくや・おうこく
Actually is: びゃくや・おうこく
(White Night Kingdom? Translated official name: Hoshido.)

Now, I did some research and found out that 白夜 can be read as びゃくや, and it translates as “White Night” , but like a concept. I don’t understand where this came from. It can also be translated as Midnight Sun, but again, I don’t quite understand what that means. Is this a common word? Am I reading too hard into it?

暗夜・王国
Read it correctly as: あんや・おうこ
(Dark Night Kingdom? Translated official name: Nohr.)

This one I was pleasantly surprised to see that my initial reading was right. Is 暗夜 just dark night? No strings attached? You could say that Batman thrives in 暗夜s? Or does it have more like a poetic use?

It means exactly what it says on the tin. A “night” where the sun does not set. It’s basically every night during the summer if you get close enough to the pole. Have a look at the wikipedia page: 白夜 - Wikipedia

Pretty much. I guess there would be no moon/no stars visible as well.
