I like both, but they are very different. Stormlight Archive is an epic fantasy, so it’s much grander and with more world building.

@Naphthalene Do all of the volumes contain bonus chapters at the end, or do they stop at some point?
I would not really consider them bonus in most cases. They are always present and usually introduce important elements to the plot. Even the one with コリンナ has some impact later.

I’m on the last volume of part 4 (volume 21) and there’s been a lot of feels in those last few volumes.
… and I don’t think I should say more, sadly. Except maybe that the series keeps getting better, as far as I am concerned, so it’s worth it to push through the slower parts.

How often do those “slower parts” come up? I know you said parts of volumes 4 and 5 were slow, but I’m curious how common it is. When it takes 3-4 weeks to read a single volume, several days of slowness could be a motivation killer. For reference, I think the only part in volume 1 I found slow was the one chapter about traditional Japanese food, and I don’t recall there being a slow part in volume 2.

For me, the first part of volume 2 (getting all the tools and starting to make paper) felt slow. Stuff like that happens again in the future, which I did find slow. I’m sorry to say that the “Main” character (badumtss) cares a lot about food too, so, expect it to come up again.
Other than that, part three revolves around doing something multiple times in different ways/places. I did enjoy it, but it’s more about learning more about the world and less about progressing the plot (it even felt a bit like the plot was artificially delayed until the checklist was done). Part 4 has its own type of slowness, in the sense that a lot of different things are going on in parallel, so each thread is kinda slow, but overall things keep happening, so it’s not bad as far as I am concerned. Also, the end of each part so far has been definitely worth it for me.

Boo on the food part. As for the rest, I guess I’ll just read on and find out. I’m trying to know as little as possible about the future books/story, so I definitely don’t want more detail. (I’m honestly already skimming most of your posts in this thread because some have said too much for me.)
I’m probably going to read at least one unrelated book after finishing the first arc, and then I’ll move on to the second arc. Whether or not I read beyond that depends on how everything plays out.

This week, I realized that at the current pace it would take 100 200 weeks to reach were I am right now.
I’m not planning to run this club for that long, though. I think a good break point would be the end of the first arc (next volume). If anyway wants to keep making threads beyond that point, feel free to let me know!

I would love to volunteer but I still have to start Volume 1 over and actually finish it (probably not anytime soon 
although I won’t give up on reading this story! >_<)
But maybe the people that are still reading along would be ok with a faster pace starting from volume 3?

I just realized I can’t do basic maths and I miscalculated. It would take 200 weeks to reach where I am at the current pace 
Increasing the pace is possible, but is that really a thing people want? The only way to make it through all the books in, say, two years would be to read one book every 4 weeks, so ~90 pages per week. Obviously twice as much to finish in one year. At that point, I feel like it’s easier to just have a discussion thread past a clear finish line (e.g. the end of the first arc).

The end of this arc is a good breaking point for me as well. I’d like to catch up at some point and staying at bookclub pace will obviously never bring that to fruition (especially since new books are theoretically coming out).

There hasn’t been much discussion in the recent threads anyway, with half the people voting in the poll having already finished the reading too. Unless that drastically changes, I can’t imagine there being much value in weekly threads after book 3 (arc 1) is finished.
