しーさんの仕事は宇宙との交信と巨人を倒すことだからね
ま交信はもう終わった仕事だけど...

My translation:
Shi-San’s job is to communicate with the universe and to defeat the giants.
but communication is a job that’s already been done…

Is communication the right word here and does the rest sound ok? Because this sounds very odd, but I guess there will be a story explanation later on?

Pg. 153

Communication is a fine word. I think it’s technically usually glossed in English as correspondence or telecommunications, but communication gets the thrust of the idea across just fine, anyway. Just keep in mind the slight difference between the two.

I might change the phrasing of the second sentence to say, “Well, correspondence is a job that’s already ended, though.” But that’s a small quibble related to how 終わる reads to me and not necessarily an inaccuracy.

Otherwise, you have the sentences correct. Anything I pointed out was minor to begin with.

There will be more in the story later about this, yes.

(question)
何しに?
I think I get that this means “Why”/“what for?”, but can’t see what the break down is / what is omitted.
Is it 何をしに行く? Or something else and what?

(question)
しーさんの仕事は宇宙との交信と巨人を倒すことだからね
I’m a bit confused with the の, is it to nominalize 宇宙と because 交信 is a noun and not a verb?

Wow that’s hilarious, good luck to the English translators

(question)
The first two bubbles on the first panel of the page, the big ones, have no arrow. Is it the big guy talking and not しーさん? Assuming that, since when しーさん talks, there are arrows on the bubbles, pointing at him.

Hahaha the 大丈夫 buff from the banana, didn’t see that one coming, nice one

Hmm, this chapter was a little tougher in terms of vocab for me, but fortunately a lot of the words I was unsure of were in the list already. I thought I wouldn’t be able to read it all at once, but I couldn’t stop myself as usual.

I saw that 引き下がる means to give up/withdraw, and knowing that 価値 means value, I believe Rojika is saying that a life where you only back down has no merit? Is that it?

Yeah, that’s how I understand it.

It is short for that, yeah. But because he already said, that he’s going there, they omit the 行く part

Nominalization would only happen after a verb or sentence.
But it is in fact because 交信 is a noun, not a verb. 交信 in itself would be “communication”, 宇宙と in itself is “with the universe”, and の acts as descriptor that tells you what sort of communication it is, it will be “communication, that happens with the universe”.
The other way this probably could’ve been phrased would have been “宇宙と交信する”, but then that would introduce other difficulties trying to put that into a list.

p163

I’d think so. Mr monster here doesn’t seem like the talkative kind. Also, I might be hallucinating it, but there seems like to me, that there is a veeeeery tiny arrow-like thing on those bubbles

I took it as しーさん talking (I assumed the monster didn’t talk at all), but I guess that’s just my interpretation. :slightly_smiling_face:

Although if it was the monster talking, then I would have expected it to say 「こんなところにきたのか」 instead of 「…いたのか」

By the way, one of my favourite parts of this very fun chapter:

So… Isaac wasn’t just being weird in page 103, huh…

Wow that’s a great observation! I totally thought that Isaac was just speaking nonsense in that earlier scene. Now that I think about it though, he’s never completely made anything up before…
