Another chapter that hits right in the feels man it’s not explicit but I guess by the ending that バクバクpassed away I somehow knew it when he was introduced that… we just wouldn’t get a happy ending.
Between Rojika’s attempt to save Rakkasei and what Bakubaku did, I must admit I got pretty emotional haha. It’s a shame, I quite liked Bakubaku and was hoping to see more of him though
Bakubaku is a real one for that, he lived a pretty sad life, he thought trees were his parents. But in the end it’s because he didn’t have anything going for him, he was able to be content with the small amount Rojika and Rakkasei gave him, letting him feel like he should sacrifice himself.
I think next book club I will slow myself to the pace of the club instead of reading ahead, as tempting as it is. I feel like I drop out of the community a lot more if I’ve already read it in the first week or two.
I also read ahead, which I largely blame on the chapter that was split into two weeks, since I wasn’t about to read half a chapter. Once I was ahead by a week I stopped caring about the schedule and just read ahead even more.
Now I’m halfway through volume 2 and honestly kind of bored. I think I’d be enjoying it more with the group than on my own.
So, I went into this book club with high hopes and then the weeks of college finals rolled around and I ended up falling behind quite badly which is also why I wasn’t as active the last couple of weeks. Thankfully, catching up wasn’t too bad, and reading the manga was still enjoyable. I’m ready for week 7 now. Also fixed some page numbers from last week that were mixed up, specifically 近年 and 満足 which had the page number as 116, but are actually 110. If I mixed something up, someone correct me, thanks.
Another great chapter, though a sad one. I wasn’t expecting this manga to have as much depth as it does - these darker chapters really play on my mind, even long after I’ve read them.
Its a shame that Bakubaku won’t be in any more chapters, since I thought he was a sweet character, but there was something lovely about the way he thought back through all the happy memories of their time together, and chose to sacrifice himself to save Rakka. I’m glad he looked so peaceful at the end, it would have made me a lot sadder to think that he had really suffered.
Man, this was such an emotional chapter for me back when I read it. It’s just so wholesome with Rojica and Rakkasei caring for and befriending this seemingly scary monster (that even asked whether it can eat Rakkasei during their first conversation!). They are so sweet together, and I got attached to Bakubaku really fast… and then, tragedy strikes.
RIP Bakubaku, forever alive in our hearts.
As a side note, it’s fascinating to me how sad I got for the death of a character that got introduced in the same chapter that they died in. I literally just met them, but man, would I have loved for them to stay alive longer.
Also Mashu-san proves once more that she’s a really sweet old lady, but the absolute worst at judging the state of other beings.
I know, right? I was really surprised by that to. Especially with the cute artstyle, and the happy-go-lucky fun/absurd first two chapters.
