ロジカとラッカセイ ・ Rojica and Rakkasei 🥜 (Beginner Book Club)

Wow, that behemoth of a chapter 10. Maybe it’s just long, but the contents aren’t too difficult  (not me trying to cope).
Also, what do you guys think of writing out sentences you don’t fully understand and then analyzing bits and pieces of them. I took this approach to maximize the reading, but honestly it just made the whole process a lot more slower and I’m not sure it was actually that useful in the end because I ended up writing out over 40 pages of “analysis” for volume 1. :grimacing:
Does anyone else here do this sort of thing or am I the only one crazy enough to do it haha.

Uhh, it covers effectively a new topic that hasn’t come up in the series before (see the chapter title). Also there’s one page of full text like a book, though honestly it’s probably fine to skim it. I don’t remember the actual difficulty of the chapter though since I read it a month ago.

I don’t know what kind of “analysis” you do, but “writing out sentences you don’t fully understand” is what I sometimes do too in book clubs (unless I can just copy them, e.g. in a book or a manga processed with Mokuro). For me it’s mainly a means to get it into ichi.moe, DeepL or a forum post.

Here’s my process (from the FAQ):

So I try to figure out the sentence, which sometimes means having to transcribe it completely. I don’t write out the result of my next steps anywhere though, unless I’m posting in the threads.

Oh, yeah my process is sort of similar, I just like to do things by hand more so I take a notebook and write out sentences I don’t know or don’t know parts of. I haven’t tried using ichi.moe though, but it sounds like it would be quite useful and a timesaver.
Here is an example of how I usually do it. I feel like this is maybe excessive and I should just stick to digital notes. (it also takes a lot more time to do)

I guess the difference is that I do all the figuring out in my head, and only transcribe a sentence so that I’m able to put it into tools that’ll give me more info about it.

Everybody has different methods that work for them, of course. And yeah, if you feel like it might be excessive and you might not be getting too much out of it anymore, try something else for a while and see how you like that.

So, 17% of voters so far say that they might’ve trouble reading chapter 10 in one week. Which I can fully understand, it’s super long!

On the other hand, it’s hard to split, and I think basically everyone who can read it in one week will want to read it without stopping in the middle - and then has to wait a week to talk about it. I really want to avoid that.

So, here’s an idea: The schedule will have chapter 10 in one week, but the next two weeks will be on the shorter side, so there’ll hopefully be a decent amount of room to catch up.

Week Start Date Chapter Pages No. of pages with text
Week 1 9 12
Week 2 10 34
Week 3 11 11
Week 4 12, 13 12
Week 5 14 27
Week 6 15 15
Week 7 16 20
Week 8 17 26

Seems like a good solution to me :+1:

If there’s a thread up for the offshoot club / chapter 9, could it please be added it to the description section at the top of the page?

It hasn’t started yet, but once it does: Yeah, it will be added to the first post here.
