Well, that was mildly anticlimactic.
I ended up blitzing three chapters on the train home from work, so think I will just read through and jump back here for questions (the slanginess I still find a bit tricky sometimes)
I don’t think I’ve heard of any dragon legends where they generate electricity around their bodies. Some RPG games have a Yellow Dragon that breaths electricity, so maybe it’s something along those lines… so Ruri is something of a Red/Yellow dragon hybrid?
I didn’t really mind the anticlimatic nothing-really-happens, since as far as I can see this manga is more of a slice-of-life with dragon elements than anything else. Looking forward to see what kind of explanation mom comes up with on next chapter.
It’s not entirely uncommon - Chinese dragons embody various natural phenomena, including storms, and do often have associations with lightning or thunder
Keep in mind Western dragon-related stories aren’t very relevant here.
Also if you read the oneshot of Ruri Dragon where she does end up meeting her father, he’s definitely much more the East-Asian serpent-like dragon than he is any kind of Western dragon. Whether the story really follows any specific mythology around dragons isn’t clear, but so far everything does seem to roughly fit into the mythology around Chinese dragons (which heavily influenced dragons in Japanese mythology as well).
Poor Ruri-chan! That girl was so rude!
her face on the bus though
It took me a little flipping back and forth to realize that girl isn’t Ruri’s friend (who has a light colored bob) being mean to her for no reason and was some unrelated girl who’s being mean (and has a light colored bob).
A third incidental light-coloured hair character will show up in a few chapters. The secret is the hair length. (Also Yuka has a much rounder face I think)
She was the one who ran away when Kashiro brought her along to lunch with Ruri and Yuka in the last chapter of volume one.
When we first met her last volume, I thought she was merely someone who just couldn’t deal with Ruri, for whatever reason, but now I’m starting to wonder if she’s also a demi-human, but of some tribe that’s traditionally in opposition to dragons. Google says phoenixes. Or maybe tigers, who are opposite dragons on the zodiac wheel.
Along with this Kameo guy, who’s been conspicuously absent, more than once.
I kinda hope not, though - I prefer the premise as “Ruri is the daughter of a dragon in an otherwise completely mundane world” rather than “oh yeah, there’s a whole secret society of mythological beings living under the surface”.
Yuka has a much rounder face, rounder eyes, and a softer, friendlier facial expression. She’s also shorter I think.
Man, I really love this series lol

Lucky for that ball that it hit her on the side of the head and not the top.
I mean, it’s not so great for Ruri, but still…
静電気除去リストバンド. Doesn’t perfeclty resemble the on in this chapter, but it’s pretty close. Don’t ask me how they work without grounding, though. Magnets, probably.
That’s the name of my 結束バンド cover band.
Simple, they don’t The ones that do work have a wire to connect to a ground. The ones without a wire are a scam. You’d need actual magic for those to have any effect.
I believe I already said that.
Well, the ones in Ruri’s world are clearly not a scam; they’re even half-dragon grade!

Oh, we’ve got a specific number of dragon traits to expect. Is that meant to put an upper limit on the length of the series?
