The soft white dots covering the whole panel is a technique used in this manga to relay that this is a memory. She is just recollecting memories of how she should at least be faster than she is and how the customer service smile isn’t coming to her naturally. (Those memories were a little too much.)
This is all in response to how 佐々木 says 「適当なの？」、「いつもあんなに一生懸命なのに」.

/edit also, just a hint of sailor fuku, unless it’s from when she was a uni student (the ossan calls her a student but I can’t recall if it was uni student or just a high schooler at that point)
It’s less “practicing” and more “demonstrating what she’s bad at to herself while thinking about it”, but yeah, this is supposed to be the act of smiling.

Well, I finished my current manga so I thought I’d just check out volume 2 and before I knew it, I was 20 pages in 
I found it really easy reading compared with the last volume.
If anyone is interested, I was struggling with the handwritten Kanji in the author’s note at the end so I spent some time to transcribe it. There was only one part that I couldn’t work out marked with a “?” in the first line. It’s just a vertical line and I couldn’t figure out if it’s a number 1 or part of the following Kanji?

ありがとうございます、地主です。
ずっとフィクションの煙草のかっこよさに憧れていたので
煙草を中心にしたお話が描けて、ましてや単行本に出来て嬉です。
あと、スーパーのスイニグドアの開く音が「ばふ」なのは
死ぬほど自信があります。
自分の漫画が紙に印刷される事が一番漫画を描いていて嬉しい事なので、

Wow. I’m… oddly surprised I (vibe) understand a fair chunk of that. I just sort of dismissed it in my head because of the handwriting. (It helps to know the sort of thing authors put in their author notes for their books though)
I think it’s just a 1, followed by a counter for boxed objects – which is somewhat weird, shouldn’t manga volumes be counted by 一冊?
They like to play around with the counter for these, a box would make thematix sense here, as in box of cigarettes
Agreed, checked volume 2 and it has a very similar ‘thanks for buying’ sentence in which the questionable characters are replaced with 一箱, and it now makes a lot more sense considering the theme. Thanks for the help!
