Yeah, we saw this word already and that’s how I came to this interpretation.
I mean I couldn’t find an occurrence outside Sakura.
I wonder how it is translated in other languages ? 
Regarding teacher engaged to student , seeing it again really reminded of what someone (I think it was @Dimsumwitch ) said when reading first volume: the way it’s shown and written really reads like a little girl fantasy about Prince Charming, NOT a male author fantasy about young girls. I suppose I can live with that.
I reread this week part and couldn’t find any really difficult bit, beside one word: あみだ, which here is short fort あみだくじ, “ghost leg lottery”. I knew that thing from Wario Ware games, didn’t know it had a name.
About that, why the heck is the whole class freaking out when the gender swap is revealed ? Like, you distributed the roles at random, what did you expect ? Or is it because it’s Sakura and Ri ?

Yeah, I had the same impression. Like you can see that kind of intention with Sakura’s crush on Yukito, I think (which to be clear, I don’t have any problem with). Still, even though I don’t think it was made with bad intentions, perhaps a bit more thought could be put into it. I would be weary about sending young girls the message that it’s okay for adults to act this way towards them. Like, I guess I wouldn’t recommend it for the actual intended age group? Or I suppose a parent could talk to their kid about it? As a childless person, though I mostly just find it uncomfortable to see how he looms over her.
I think it’s because of their impression of Li, specifically.

I first mined あみだくじ a month or two ago on a whim (I think from Fruits basket), and I’ve been shocked at how often it’s come up in stuff im reading or watching.
Finished this weeks reading and I want to keep reading so badly!! Will have to wait til next week I suppose

Re Li and Sakura's roles
On page 60, there’s this exchange:
Kero: 女の子と男の子の役くらい分けとけやー
“At least separate the girls’ and the boys’ roles…”
(Grammar points: I believe the “くらい” used here is this one. とけ is short for ておく, to “do in advance”. So like, the vibe I’m getting is “if you’re going to do an amidakuji, you should at least separate the girls’ and boys’ roles in advance!”)
Sakura: 観月生の提案あんだって
“They said/Apparently it was Mizuki-sensei’s proposal.”
Tomoyo: どの役にも公平にチャンスがあるようにと
“She said it would give a fair chance for anyone to get any role.” (I’m assuming the “と” is referring to Mizuki, though I suppose it could be referring to whoever told Sakura and Tomoyo about the proposal, or it could be less literal.)
So it seems not everyone was on the same page about mixing the male and female roles for the play, and maybe the students weren’t thinking too hard about it before the results actually came out… I do think Kero is particularly miffed the role went to Li though, lol.
Also, I’m glad you enjoy my little poll notes! I’m not providing in-depth discussion questions or anything, but I do want to give people a little something to think about before the week’s reading starts. c:

Yeah, that’s a good point. I made it sound like it was a non-issue, but I guess it would be more fair to say the reaction was stronger because it was Li in particular. Or at least that was my reading.
(also sorry for the like and run yesterday. that was maybe odd? I was on like four hours of sleep)
Yeah, like something to kind of remind us of what’s going on and get us excited? It’s a nice touch.

Absolute banger of a chapter. Ri overacting and the Witch being way too well played were just so funny.
Again, nothing really tricky to read here. But then again, we know the sleeping beauty story.

Side note: we reached that episode in the anime.
While a couple details are different (in particular, father doesn’t seem to explicitly send Sakura this way), my SO was still just as confused as us as to why on earth nothing was revealed to Sakura.
The anime does hint a bit more clearly toward a conflict between father and Nadeshiko Family, but still.

Lots of new vocabulary for me in the play. I had to look up quite a bit when I reread it. I still really enjoyed it, though. Sakura and Li getting all fired up was super cute and the dynamic with the classmates was so fun. Meanwhile, Kaho is still so mysterious :0 Seems we’re learning more, though.
This time, Kero’s dialogue at the end is giving me trouble.
Edit: As @zucchi pointed out, I mixed up the page numbers and this is actually page 102 in the refurbished edition (not 98, which I originally wrote) and is actually part of next week’s section

「これ」に飲み込まれなかったということはかなりの魔力の持ち主。。。
So, "Things that were not absorbed by this, a master of great power…

Anyways, I think this sentence is easier to read if the whole statement is included! It’s definitely a grammatically difficult sentence, though.

The sentence:「これ」に飲み込まれへんかったっちゅうことはかなりの魔力の持ち主・・・ 月のちからを使うてるもんやな
First, let’s look at everything up to は, since は marks the topic of the sentence.
“「これ」に飲み込まれへんかったっちゅうことは”
“これ” here is the darkness.
For “飲み込む” Something like “swallow,” “engulf” or “absorb” are all fine.
“飲み込まれへんかった” is the passive, negative past tense in kansai-ben. In other words, “was not absorbed by.”
“っちゅうこと” is a casual form of “ということ”, meaning something along the lines of “the fact that X is true.” A bit hard to translate without context.
ということは is specifically used to mean “that is to say/that means” or something along those lines.

Thus I would translate this something like:
“Not being swallowed up by this (darkness) means…”
Next we have:
“かなりの魔力の持ち主”
かなり means something like “considerably” or “quite.” 持ち主 is owner/possessor.
Here, I might translate as “A wielder of considerable magical power.”
Finally we have:
“月のちからを使うてるもんやな”
This also seems relatively simple, I think this is “a person who uses the power of the moon.” I believe 使うてる is an alternative form of 使っている. (I first translated this as “a person who can use the power of the moon,” but on second glance I don’t see any evidence of a potential form here.)
やな is just one of Kero’s kansai-ben sentence-enders. Here, maybe it could be translated as “right?”
All-in-all, I would translate this sentence something along the lines of:
“Not being swallowed up by this means you’re a wielder of considerable magical power… you’re someone who uses the power of the moon, aren’t you?”
(The “you”s are not present in the original, but Kero is clearly addressing Kaho, so I’ve included them to make the sentence more natural in English))

Whew @zucchi you must have JUST updated the page right as I caught up to last week’s panel. Haven’t read this week’s stuff yet.
I binge read the last two weeks’ worth of panels on the subway a few days ago. I feel like I shouldn’t continually be surprised at my ability to read through and get the general understanding of the panels at this point, even though there was TONS of vocabulary I didn’t know and couldn’t look up. I don’t think I’m anywhere as strong as a reader as most of you, but regardless I feel myself getting faster even if I don’t feel like I understand much more I guess small increments still add up!
@simboubou I was the one that mentioned the “little girl fantasy” aspect of the romantic relationships portrayed. But I do agree with @mildlyrebelliousmint that there maybe could have been a way to put an asterisk on all of it so the younger target audience doesn’t get the wrong idea…

Being able to read faster and comprehending the same amount you did while reading slower (or maybe even a little bit more) is good progress!
Last week was definitely vocabulary-heavy for me as there was a more formal/old-timey/fantasy feeling to it. I’ll probably have to look up some of those words even if I see them again, but it’ll probably still be easier than the first time!
It’s been great reading with you, keep at it.
