Hello, I am using みんなの日本語 for 2 years now.
(Minna no nihongo > Japanese book for beginner’s learners with some lessons and exercices > it’s a good book but only if you have a teacher, it’s not for self-studying)
I finished the first book, and I have nearly finished the second one.
For all listening exercises, I get the habits to have my teacher reading all dialogues and questions. The two teachers that I listen are native Japanese speakers, and they speak at their normal speed when speaking in Japanese.
But, with the second one, He managed to get the audio part from the book itself, and we are now listening to the CD. While I was totally able to follow what my teacher was saying (minus one or two new vocabs), and understood quite easilly what he was saying, while using the CD I am TOTALLY lost.
The speakers on the CD are quite fast for me, and speak really faster than my two teachers.
If I want to understand the dialog, I need to listen back 4 or 5 times…
Is anyone have also trouble to follow audio part in みんなの日本語 ? What have you done to improve yourself ? It is normal japanese speaker speed ? Why when I listen to my teachers or youtube video I am able to follow but not in this CD ? Is JLPT exams are at the same speed ?
I don’t remember that well about the audio in みんなの日本語, but I remember the JLPT listening section not being exactly fast, but the issue is that you only listen to it once, and it’s structured in a way to confuse you about the answer. At least that’s how it was last year; apparently it got better this year.
It’s you only listen to the audio once it will be quite annoying for me. I passed TOEIC test for english and my biggest problem was to not hang up and to be concentrated for all the audio part ^^’
Anyone also having problem in audio part ? How do you improve yourself?
How are you doing with lstening now? Minna no Nihongo audio is pretty much native speed, but the voices are clear. There is an app with extra listening practice to go along with all chapters of the Minna no Nihongo shokyuu series, available for free in the Play Store, probably available for Apple users as well.
JLPT start out slow with listening at N5, and works up to average speed by N3/2, I think.
Now I can follow what they say, but at first that was really difficult for me, I think I had the habits of the same accent and way of speaking of my teacher and then the listening was really difficult because I didn’t recall the word with others peechs.
Now I can follow NHK Radio and some youtube videos / twitch without subs but I am lacking of grammar to understand really well.
So the solution for me was to listen to various ressources with differents accents with man and women and also to improve my grammar, because for a lot of small point, I was totally thinking of “WTF is this form?” to really take the time to identifiate words in speech and it blocked me.
