とんがり帽子のアトリエ Volume 2 🧙‍♀️

The use of panels on page 92 really stood out to me this week.

Rather than presenting one giant panel on top, it’s split into three to draw one’s eyes to the rain first, then the nearby wildlife, then finally the bridge.

Yeah it’s gorgeous. K-dog’s pose on the previous page is a bit goofy though, his neck seems to do a 180 and I can’t quite make sense of his legs:

This is the ideal 魔法使い body. You may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like.

I don’t love it but I can’t think of a better one. Apparently in the French version it’s Olugio.

Clearly his left foot is on the ground.

And his right foot is out in front.

And he’s wearing his left shoe on his extended right foot.

As every ideal 魔法使い should.

Yeah, nah.

Maybe Orrugio?

Allergio and his pollen-casting magic.

Yes it doesn’t match the kana but then neither does Agott so there’s precedent.

I refuse to use Agott either.

Edit: A-dog?? :woman_shrugging:

I literally can’t think of a worse one. What’s up with the extra consonant? Couldn’t the person who transcribed this make up their mind if it would be better to use l or r, so they used both? I love Allergio, and I’m afraid I can’t unsee it. From now on, every time he looks angry and uptight I’ll just think he’s about to sneeze from hayfever.

Agathe will be Agathe forever.

By the way I noticed in the various promotional materials posted in these threads that there was a spin-off manga about K-dog cooking or something like that which seemed very random but suddenly makes a lot more sense after this chapter. I wonder if cooking segments are going to be a regular occurrence from now on. The author certainly seems to enjoy drawing food!

I get so excited when Wormie-sama makes an appearance.

End of chapter 8

Coco hiding behind K-dog was adorable :hugs:

(Yes I checked 12 times to make sure I hadn’t already posted this)

Chapter 9

Magic in this world is very practical in its application. But the floor tiles that light when you step on them seem especially so. The centre pattern and the ring come together when weight is applied on top, feels more like a mechanical device or electrical circuit.

My only query was, given that they are so keen to keep magic a secret, surely anyone who takes apart one of these tiles is going to be able to see exactly how the magic works?

Chapter 9

My only query was, given that they are so keen to keep magic a secret, surely anyone who takes apart one of these tiles is going to be able to see exactly how the magic works?

Wouldn’t that be the case for every magic device the public uses? Given enough examples, inquisitive individuals would be able to figure out that the shapes drawn on the tools are intricately linked to the way magic works and even be able to reverse-engineer the meaning of the individual components and how they relate to each other, similar to how cryptanalysis works in our world. What they maybe won’t be able to figure out by mere observation is the need for the special magic ink, unless there is something like (al)chemical knowledge available to the public.

So in the long run the only thing preventing the secret of magic from coming to light this way is to have the 魔警団magic police root out any such endeavors by the normal populace.

So maybe we get some kind of underground magic résistance plot development in the future…

Furigana for 憧れ but not for 辻馬車. Ok bro.

Anyway fun chapter.

I’m willing to forgive the contrivance that Allergio happens to be the inventor of the 灯石道 because it’s cute. Also I don’t fully understand the “legal” situation with Coko. I thought K-dog had officially registered her but apparently the wizard cops would still memory wipe her if they knew of her existence?

Yeah the magic ink is probably the key here. After all the magic circle under the carriage in chapter one was in the open but normies still wouldn’t know how it works exactly.

If a scientist really tried to reverse engineer it they would probably get a visit from the wizard welcoming committee.

This was a cute chapter!

chapter 9

Oruggio’s (???) grouchiness compliments the other character’s cheerful and calm personalities quite well, I think. Well ok, it might be a bit much to call Agathe cheerful, especially after the last couple chapters! But she definitely seems to be on friendly terms with everyone except Coco, even if she’s also uptight.

Coco and the wizard cops

It’s my understanding that she’s an official pupil of his, especially because he states it outright on page 113,

“ココは自分の魔法で試験に合格して正式な弟子になったんだから堂々としていていいんだ”,

but the wizard cops haven’t been informed that she’s had run-ins with forbidden magic and the つばあり帽. Oruggio tried to take her to them when he heard about forbidden magic, and only learned that she was 知らざる者 when he heard the whole situation later. Coco’s origins are connected with her encounters with forbidden magic, so at the very least K-dog seems to think the cops would discover her secret if they were to investigate. He doesn’t appear to like them in general, if I read the ominous tone correctly during his explanation on page 109.

It makes me wonder if there’s a list of magic families or something. How else would the wizard cops or anybody know someone is an outsider, unless the outsider confessed to it? There could be loads of wizards who started out as mundane people.

I really liked Richieh's face in these panels

I hope so!!!

Lots of talking and not much action this chapter, but seems like next chapter should have plenty of action!

This is just a random theory, but I’m vaguely wondering if Agathe is Orrugio’s daughter (or related somehow)?

You say that because they’re both tryhard tsundere assholes but I don’t think it’s a genetic condition.

Also they

Summary

both have dark hair
