してくる construction

Hello,

I have a question. I often hear people use a ~てくる or ~ていく construction. I know this is a coming or going feeling attaching to the verb. 雨が降ってきた. It started raining.
Is this right?

2 parter question but…
How do you remember to use these constructions? They seem pretty common but I can’t seem to remember to use this nuance correctly or at the right time. Flavoring my speaking with nuance is really difficult for me honestly.

Sorry this post is all over the place.

With practice or enough familiarity with the subjects.

There’s also this Tofugu’s article about it to learn all the nuances. It helped me to understand how to use this construction.
