Spoiler Courtesy

Interesting chapter,

not sure about the detective’s fate at the end, but he was also quite interested once he heard about 七ツ谷… I wonder if she has some kind of background that sparks the attention of all these characters? And if the detective does manage to reach the lodge, I wonder if he would get into a game of “who’s the real detective?” With our local murderer?

Another part which caught my attention was the bringing of food to 七ツ谷, it also felt suspicious to me… does she know anything? Is the being threatened? I wonder…

Thought the same things as @snowwater , interesting that 田所 seems to know the mangaka. And that she fired her manager (or what’s his job?) but asked to see the detective, who said that she knows he’s not one… Maybe a way to get the manager to be saved, fearing that he would kill everyone if she said who he was?

As for the end of the chapter, just to be sure I understood correctly, 田所 is crossing the river on the ladder of a firetruck, and just as he jumps on the other side, the side of the river collapses. I’m guessing that’s the side the truck was on? That would be convenient (for the plot, not for 田所), no one else can come with him and he can’t go back now.

Chapter 16

That was my reading, too. The truck pulls away from the riverbank because that’s the side that’s collapsing. Very convenient indeed, although since the truck seems to be fine, there’s opportunity for reinforcements to cross somewhere else on the river later. No doubt 田所 will go on ahead instead of waiting :grin:

Yeah the teacher’s behavior is odd— Like you I suspect she’s trying to work out some deal with the murderer to save her life and of course needs to keep everyone else out of it. We gotta get a flashback or explanation about what went down in that first meeting eventually!

Oh I would bet that’s absolutely going to happen, though not to what extent. Someone may die because they choose to trust the fake detective over the real one :eyes:

Finally making progress on catching up thanks to lots of free time in the holiday season. Only two weeks’ worth of reading left!

Is it just me, or is 深雪 getting kind of creepy lately, what with her revenge quest and lack of empathy for less talented people? I’m starting to wonder if she’s going to kill 七ツ谷 and blame it on 山名 at some point.

I find the chapter quite entertaining, especially the part where the lady on the phone protested for 30 mins for being called a “scam” :smile:

A bit late to the party, but I’m itching to leave my speculation here just for the record:

My guess is that during the conversation with 先生 in front of her door, it was our culprit all along who changed his voice to make everybody think that 先生 is talking to them :rofl: This way he could buy time to not let people interact with 先生 (no matter in which condition she is).

This crossed my mind when I first read this chapter, too. But I discarded the theory, because I thought it would be too obvious that a man is immitating a woman’s voice, especially for 戸沢, who’s very familiar with her real voice. But given how wacky this book becomes in the later chapters, I think the theory is back on the table.

Well to be honest I wouldn’t consider such a theory at all if it weren’t for the comedic nature of the book :rofl:
